S.D. Standard Perplex Tindercord Lighter

c. 1920s - This is an interesting lighter type to use. These light readily as a spark from the flint wheel hits the tinder cord, the cord begins to blow. If it's windy, all the better; if not just a couple quick breaths increase the glowing area and it's ready to light a cigarette. Pulling the cord back down pulls the little ball with it to the top of the tube and denies oxygen to the cord and it goes out. As long as the cord isn't wet, arguably the most dependable lighter to use. More Info

Sarome

Sarome are a top quality Japanese lighter maker and have been in existence since 1940. It was originally called Segawa Mfg.Co, but changed it’s name in 1963.

A petrol lighter dating from the early 1950’s in the form of a boat. The body is enamel painted.

Sarome Cruiser Lighter

1960s There vere 2 different versions of this lighter: one had the flint screw on the bottom, the other on the front. The front tube seems earlier and doubtless caused problems with the very curved flint tube- fixed in the later version with a straight tube from the bottom.

Savoy

England

Savoy Automatic Lighter

Very interesting and unusual construction on this lighter! Removing the screw to change flint allows most of the lighter to be taken apart. The screw and spring come out, the bottom of the lighter separates and so does the top - leaving the center section with the cotton wadding in it - if the wadding doesn't fall out too! Removing the fulcrum screw on the top part allows the plunger to come out, the snuffer cap and striker wheel and then the flint tube is also a removable piece. There are tiny gaskets around the perimeters of the top and bottom pieces to seal it from leakage of lighter fluid.

Scripto Butane Lighter

c. mid 1960s. Even with the instructions, this lighter seems impossible to fill. Possibly there was some sort of special adapter. Looking into the hole where the gas is to be put, there is no visible valve. The fill instructions are here on the website - but haven't helped much! Two versions are shown: Silver-tone and Gold-tone as well as the removed flint tube in preparation for fueling.
