Toledo Bend Bi-State Meeting
March 24th, 2008 Minutes
Opening Prayer by Maurice Patterson, Pledge of Allegiance lead by Cliff Hunt
A Special Award was issued to Maurice Patterson by Janna Lehman. The award showed bowls of soup & bottles of Gatorade in honor of his recent illness.
Minutes from February were approved as posted on our website.
Treasurer's report was approved as reported.
Old Business:
Glenn & Kay Taylor have volunteered to head-up the committee planning the 2008 Grandparent-Grandkids Tournament at Lowe's Creek Marina. There will be a 5 fish limit per boat. Grandkids will be under 16 years of age. If you want to help in the planning of this event call the Taylor's at 409-579-3369 directly.
The Texas Forest Country Banquet will be 3/25/08 and 'Mattress Mac' will be the guest speaker from Gallery Furniture in Houston. Attending to represent us will be Jim & Rita Binns, Jerry & Susan Cowgill, Bill & Carol McCarty and Gene & Ann Nethery.
Jim Binns talked about Giant Salvinia (GS) issues with TPWD and National Invasive Species Council (NISC) officials. Dr. Earl Chilton (TPWD) has applied for federal grant funding for Toledo Bend & Sam Rayburn. SRA/TX has allocated $100K to TPWD for use in combating GS. Howard Elder (TPWD) will coordinate plan for use of these funds. Jim also talked about herbicides, placing booms to contain salvinia and will have updates on these and other GS related issues at the April meeting.
Maurice received a letter form Senator Robert Nichols indicating that he has put forth a bill to help with the salvinia problem. Texas Parks & Wildlife is lobbying against this according to Glen Provost. It was decided that Glen will write up some specifics for us to address with our representatives and senators.
New Business:
Janna Lehman invited everyone to the Bass Unlimited Poster Unveiling on April 3rd at the Sabine Council on Aging Toledo Center in Zwolle. Judy Wong is the artist of the poster this year and she has also won the Women's Bass Classic so it should be a very nice event. She also talked about their Banquet on the April 11th and invited all to attend.
