Board of Directors Meeting

February 19, 2008

The Board of Directors of TBBSA met on Tuesday, February 19th at 2:00 P.M. at the Antique Connection on the downtown Square in Hemphill, Texas.

Present: Maurice Patterson, Texas Co-Chairman; Janna Lehman, Treasurer; Betty Griffin, Secretary; Glen Provost, Board Advisor; Joe Kelley, Board Member; Bill McCarty, Board Member; Stan Verret, Board Member; and Cara Martin, Chairperson of the Grandparent-Grandchild Fishing Tournament Committee.

Maurice Patterson called the meeting to order and started the discussion about whether or not the TBBSA wants to have a Grandparent-Grandchild Fishing Tournament this year and just send out invitations to our TBBSA member list. The invitation would just state 'We are having a Grandparent-Grandchild Fishing Tournament, and would you like to participate at the cost of $50 per boat?' The second part would state the rules for a Simple Tournament, using the 'Five Stringer' rule, and 2 people per boat. This tournament would be sort of a trial run to keep the momentum going for the larger tournament planned for June, 2009.

Joe Kelley stated it should be stressed that this is a 'Kids Tournament', and went on to give the advice he learned from those at Huxley Bay who have been running similar tournaments for about 15 years. More discussion followed regarding the Tournament Rules, registration, charges for participants and inclusion of a meal, prizes, workers and other questions regarding fishing licenses, etc.

Glen Provost said that our main concern is who will run the tournament. Several names were mentioned as possibilities to help. Joe will check with some he knows, and Glen will call, also. Lowe's Creek Marina has offered to have the tournament held there.

Cara Martin said she will not be available to help this summer, and that is why the Grandparent-Grandchild Fishing Tournament was being planned for June, 2009.

Maurice surveyed each member and the consensus of the board was to recommend to the membership having this small tournament this year. More discussion followed regarding stressing this is for the kids and keeping it simple, also no outside sponsors will be involved. Maurice suggested limiting the amount coming out of TBBSA Treasury to $2000. Registration fees will cover some of the cost for prizes and meal tickets.

Maurice appointed Joe Kelley to present the proposal to TBBSA membership at our meeting on Monday night, February 25th. He also asked Glen Provost to call Glenn and Kay Taylor about helping with tournament. Glen volunteered to check on the legalities involved with fishing licenses and rules for Louisiana and Texas sides of Toledo Bend Reservoir. Maurice said he will be on the radio Friday morning. He thanked everyone for coming to the meeting.

Meeting adjourned at 2:45 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Betty Griffin, Secretary
