Minutes November 22, 2004
The meeting was called to order by Linda Mauer.
The opening prayer was given by John Koelemay, South T.B. Civic Assoc.
Linda welcomed members and visitors, John Koelemay, and also Viron Barbay of Milam.
Changes to the Agenda under New Business: Need someone to act as Secretary for the January meeting. Betty Griffin will be absent.
Minutes of the October 25, 2004 Meeting were approved as submitted.
Janna Lehman, Treasurer, reported a balance of $2,062.33. There are 20 Organization Members and 20 Associate Members paid for 2004. Janna will be following up with Laguna Shores and San Augustine Chamber of Commerce. Janna mentioned she still has hats for $12 each. She will pay the printing bill as soon as the postcards and posters are mailed out. The Treasurer's Report was approved as given.
Old Business:
East Texas Region I Planning Committee: Bill Huegel, representative, was not present.
Documents on Projected Power Distribution Costs: Larry Kelly met in Baton Rouge with Thomas Townsend and Andy Dreher from Entergy, and they are supposed to be obtaining information on best and worse case scenarios for power usage. He plans to see them again at the December 2nd meeting of the Joint SRA Boards. Larry feels Linda should be able to complete the letters to Sen. Staples and Representative Hamilton after the December 2nd meeting.
Co-Chairman for Louisiana: Larry will be contacting possible candidates in the coming weeks, but members of the Lake Association fear problems with losing their status as a non-profit organization if they continue membership in TBBSA. Janna and Jerry will work on getting the members to join as Associate Members.
Data Base Collection Progress: He is getting a goodly number of names and soon will be able to do a mail-merge and produce letters that can be sent to the legislators.
New Business:
SRA-TX & LA Joint Board Meeting: December 2nd is the date set for the meeting to be held at Cypress Bend Resort. Larry is waiting for a phone call to get a definite time, and he will get that information to Janna so the cards and posters can be printed and mailed out right away. Stan Verret asked about the posting of meetings on our website bulletin board. Janna will post all upcoming meetings, and also will note there will not be a TBBSA meeting in December.
Posters & Postcards for Joint Board Meeting: Janna has the posters and postcards all ready to be finalized and mailed out as soon as the time of the meeting is known. She distributed a few samples of the postcards and read one to the group for corrections and approval. Cost of the printing and mailing came to $654.
Letter to Interested Parties Regarding Joint Board Meeting: A letter drafted by Linda, with input from John Crisp and Larry Kelly, was mailed out on November 15th to Sen. Staples, Roy Blake, Mike Hamilton, Allan Ritter, 3 county judges, city managers, the Sabine Reporter, the San Augustine paper, and the Newton News. Linda gave the gist of the letter and mentioned the newspapers were asked to post it in their Letters to the Editor so the public is aware they are cordially invited to attend.
Stan Verret reluctantly "volunteered" to take meeting notes for the January 24, 2005 meeting, in absence of the regular secretary. Linda thanked him for doing that.
Other Comments:
Larry asked about calling all the interested parties regarding the time and place for the meeting of the Joint SRA Boards, and Linda said she plans to call all of them and stop in to visit local dignitaries. We need their support of our efforts.
Larry and Linda commented to our visitor regarding the efforts made and progress of the TBBSA. Larry also gave an idea of the presentation that will be given at the Joint Board Meeting of the SRAs on December 2nd.
