Minutes of 4/26/04 Meeting Toledo Bend Bi-State Alliance
Larry Kelly called the meeting to order, Bill Lewis led us in Prayer. We had 9 members in attendance. The minutes from March were approved. The treasurer’s report was approved with a balance of $1823.33. We have 15 organizations paid for 2004 and 15 associate members.
Larry presented information from the Region I Water Board, since Bill Heugel was unable to attend. Houston is still trying to get water, so we need to pay close attention to what this group is proposing.
Lake Level Issue – May 1st is the effective date of HCR 295. Joe Salter is trying to get it pushed back to November 1st in his amendment. The PSC in Louisiana is trying to get the ability to pass on the possible fuel adjustment cost to their customers. The SRA-LA board is taking their proposal to the next joint board meeting. This meeting will be held at the Dam office. We need lots of participation, especially from Texas. Harry Johnson has written a letter to Senator Todd Staples asking for his support since this is crucial to increased economic development.
Larry emphasized that we still don’t have a volunteer to be the Texas Co-Chair. Larry said “We need a combined voice for the lake, let’s not let this organization die!”
We are still trying to get the SRA-TX to hold one of their regular meetings here in Sabine County. Larry will write a letter to the board and get the Chamber of Commerce to send it.
Larry indicated that after the 168msl issue is resolved, that the sale of water should be our next concern.
Stan Verret made a special announcement that May 31, 2004 (Memorial Day) there will be a ceremony at the courthouse at 10AM. Another at 2PM at the Hemphill High School Football Stadium will welcome home several local service men 7 women.
