Toledo Bend BI State Alliance Meeting February 25, 2002
The meeting was called to order by Larry Kelly
JB Myers lead the group in prayer.
Minutes of the November and January meetings were read and approved.
The Treasurers report was presented. There are now 6 organizations and 2 associate members paid for this year. present balance is $2362.85.
A letter requesting payment of dues will be mailed out shortly.
A motion was made seconded and approved to accept the treasures report.
DEDTA report Gene Nethery is now the president of DEDTA. Charles English is now the chairman of a Retirees committee. The purpose of the committee is to determine ways to influence retired persons to take up residence in the East Texas Area.
East Texas Regional Water Planning report
The ETWPG directed the executive committee to begin discussing joint water planning activities. This could result in an approach which moves water from one district to another.
The Sabine Lake model has been completed and data will be made available soon.
The work on the ground water availability models is ongoing.
Toledo Bend has stored in it 300,000 Acre Ft of water which belongs to the State of Texas. The rights to this water were not given to the Sabine River Authority.
The part of the lake which is owned by LA could be sold to Texas cities.
When discussing the moving of water from one region to another the consideration is often an extra cost which can be used to pay for the infrastructure in the supplying area.
There has been some discussion between the northern regions and Oklahoma. Oklahoma would sell water to the regions.
Collaborative effort
The general feeling from the participants of the collaborative effort is that it was not going well.
The next meeting of the collaborative group is April 23.
Larry Kelly will be attending the LA wildlife federation convention. He asked that the registration fees of $140 be approved by the TBBSA. A motion was made seconded and passed to pay for the fees.
A discussion was held concerning the need to inform our legislators of the TBBSA goals. The first selected was Wayne Christian. He will be contacted by JB Myers to see about his attending our next meeting. It was requested that more members of the support organizations attend that meeting to show support and commitment to the issues.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 25th, 2002.
A discussion of the need to get officers for 2002 was conducted. At the present time a co. chairman for Texas and a secretary are required.
