Minutes of Membership Meeting September 25, 2000.
Meeting was called to order by L. Kelly
Opening Prayer: J. B. Meyers.
Introduced new members and visitors.
Mr. Cox & Mr. Graves were introduced. Mr Cox is a new individual member and Mr. Graves as well as Mr. Cox represent an organization, Riverkeeper, that is presently forming in this area.
Approved Minutes form the previous meeting.
Treasurer's Report: Janna reported that we received a donation from the Louisiana Toledo Bend Lake Association of $200.00 and that our balance prior to that donation was $2,077.96.
Old Business:
Larry Kelly reported on the Lake Level project. The SRA has written to the FERC asking that the public meetings to discuss down river flooding as well as lake level be postponed until the 32 lawsuits filed against the SRA by residents living below the dam who were flooded in January/February of 1999, are resolved. We, as did the SRAC, have sent a letter to the FERC opposing any delay in the meetings and requested the FERC order the SRA to change it's operation. The FERC is preparing a response to the SRA.
Larry Kelly and Charles English will meet with some of the Texas SRA board members. There is a meeting scheduled with Mr. Don Covington on September 29th. Mr. Covington is a member of the Joint Operating Board.
Charles English reported on DETA:
1. POWER PLANT PROPOSED FOR DEWEYVILLE AREA OF NEWTON COUNTY.INTER-GEN North America HAS ANNOUNCED A 1200-MEGAWATT POWER PLANT SLATED FOR CONSTRUCTION TO START LATE 2000.
2. JIM TURNER SEEKS TO CHANGE ROCKLAND RESERVOIR FROM A CORP OF ENGINEER PROJECT TO A PART OF THE NEW TEXAS WATER DEVELOPMENT PLAN.
New Business:
Possible public meeting with candidates from area. (Note: unable to arrange any meetings).
Next Meeting was set for October 23, 2000.
