5/11   Trees and Plants of the Mansfield Battlefield: Meet at the visitor center at 10:00 am. Enjoy a ranger-led hike of the General Mouton trail while learning to identify local trees and plants. The hike will also include interesting facts about the Battle of Mansfield.
5/25   7th Annual Memorial Day Weekend Cannon Firing and Encampment: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 4th Louisiana Artillery reenactment group will host a cannon firing program and living history encampment on the park. Come see how the big guns were fired! Cannon firing demonstrations, soldier-life talks and much more will be featured at this exciting event. Start your summer off with a bang! 6/1   Women Spies of the Civil War: Presentation at 2 p.m. This program will explore the role women spies played in the Civil War. A discussion of various female spies, Union and Confederate, and how they operated during the Civil War will be covered, as well as the different methods they utilized to gather their information.
6/15   Children’s Games of the Civil War: Presentation at 2 p.m. Come out and see the various games and toys played by children of the mid-19th century. Try your hand at Cup and Ball, Graces, Whipping Top, Stick and Hoop, and more. Fun for the whole family!
6/21   Bullets to Bats: Baseball in the Civil War: Presentation at 2 p.m. This talk will trace the evolution of baseball from the mid-nineteenth century through the Civil War. From the early days of “Town Ball” to the current game of baseball, the game has evolved into “America’s Pastime.” The Civil War played a major role in the proliferation and mass appeal of the game.
