Message: Species: Crappie

Date: 3/19

Location: Backs of coves with grass

Outside Temp: 40 early / 65 late

Wind: 5mph out of the north west

Skies: Cloudy morning / clear afternoon

Water Depth to target: 3ft to 6ft

Water Temp: 52 early / 58 late

Jig Head: 3/16 pink jig head with white eye

Jig Body: Bobby Garland Baby Shad in color Blue Thunder

Line: 8lb Berkley

Knot: Rapala (allows the bait to sit level in the water)

Presentation: We TRIED crawling the baits on a cork-less retrieve just above the grass (as we did the day before) without much luck. We then placed corks on the line at a depth of 3ft and used a "pop, pop, stop" retrieve. Upon casting we would let it sit for about five seconds before "popping" (like fishing a shiner), and most of the time that's when they would hit it (aggressively too, so don't look away for too long cause your cork would disappear quick!) We ended up with just a few before going to the cork technique and then quickly caught 21. All were males which were likely moving in the prep the beds for the big females to move in shortly.

Message: Species: Crappie

Date: 3/18

Location: Backs of coves with grass

Outside Temp: 45 early / 69 late

Wind: 10mph out of the south

Skies: Partly cloudy

Water Depth to target: 3ft to 6ft

Water Temp: 52 early / 59 late

Jig Head: 3/16 white jig head with pink eye

Jig Body: Bobby Garland Baby Shad in color Monkey Milk

Line: 8lb Berkley

Knot: Rapala (allows the bait to sit level in the water)

Presentation: We "crawled" the baits on a cork-less retrieve just above the grass until we felt the bump. We were not catching very many until we swapped over to the tactics and bait mentioned (above). It was like flipping a switch. We had just a few in the boat until swapping over and then ended up with 27 in just a short time remaining of daylight. All were males which were likely moving in the prep the beds for the big females to move in shortly.

Message: Dean was right in his comment to a degree, people on the lake must think if they don't look you in your eyes they've done nothing wrong. When coming up to boat headon while trolling a bank it is both boats to take the Right side just like driving a car. If they are Anchored ask them which side to go around. Common COURTESY it's not dead just asleep.

Message: Fished Alpine area from Saturday to Thursday. Averaged 3 keepers a day, largest 3.8. Most full of eggs. Caught on 14 different lures, more on purple flake lizard (weightless) or swim jig with watermelon bottom hopper trailer. All caught in 3-6 ft on outside edges of buck brush, mainly mid morning. Water ib creeks 49-51 deg, needs to warm up some.
People...I'm begging here. If you approach someone fishing, in a boat, off a dock, or on shore, use a little courtesy and GO AROUND!!!! I had 4 (FOUR!!) boats cut between me and the bank I was fishing. None of them thought they had done anything wrong. My wife, while casting off the end of our dock, had a boat stop withing 15 feet of her and begin fishing the same brush she was fishing. While standing on the bank and casting, we have had boats stop and begin fishing to the bank we were standing on.
Folks, its a HUGE lake. If someone is fishing a spot, go somewhere else. Fishing is supposed to be fun, it is not a contact sport. Keep your head out of your rear and use a little common courtesy.
I hope to see you on the lake, at a distance.

Water temp hanging on 50 degrees to 54. Not many fish being caught, if someone tells you different then check their boat for dynamite. Message: In response to the water clarity question, Blue Lake area (north end) was fairly muddy this past Friday. Water temp was down to 48 - 49.5 but should be warming up with these warm days.
