By Ed Snyder

Bassing America MBAA Individual Circuit
Sunday, January 16, 2000, U.S. Army Rec/Center, Lake Toledo Bend, LA.

"From my first cast til 7:05am is what it took to get my limit, stated the Veteran angler who had just weighed-in his 5 bass/17.58 lb catch at Lake Toledo Bend's Army Rec/Center. Among the 36 other MBAA anglers who were spending their Sunday chasin' bass bites, the Leesville LA, angler managed to catch 16 bass on Bill Norman DLN's for culling his 1st place winning stringer.

In its first tournament of the new millennium, the Military Bass Anglers of America -(MBAA)- managed to launch 36 anglers under "unseasonable" warm & sunny skys as the above normal weather provided the Toledo Bend Tournament anglers with Springlike weather conditions rather than the more normal mid-winter blue-bird chills. "We're really growing now, informed tournament director, Rodney Howard, explaining that he had just signed up 40 new members today. The anglers were fishing an individual circuit which allowed for a tournament limit of 5 bass at 14" minimum. "No-Prob", answered most of the anglers that were lining up to weigh their 3:pm deadlines.

"BassCat/Mercury "Tuff", answered Jerry Hilton of Leesville LA, as he told of fishing Mitchell rods and Shimano reels spooled with 15# Berkely mono while working Texas Red Bill Norman DLN's. "I managed to catch a limit by 7:05am this morning, he explained, adding that he was fishing 4' to 10' Toro Bay grass-bank dropoffs that fell into timber for catching his winning 5 bass/17.58 lb 1st place limit.

"Jeans Lure's Spinner baits, announced Evans LA, angler, George Jeans Jr., "I ran my ProCraft/Mariner to Six Mile grass-edges today, he further told as he informed of fishing with Cordell rods and Garcia reels spooled with 15# Berkely mono while working 3/4 oz chartreuce/white spinner baits w/Mr. Twister chartreuce trailers. "I must've caught at least 30 bass today, he stated, adding that he was able to cull a 5 bass/16.92 lb, 2nd place weight, from a 7:am to 10:am prime-bite.

"My "kicker" bite came at between 11:am to noon, stated Ricky Heard of Jasper TX, as he informed of running his Skeeter/Yamaha to Six Mile grasslines for fishing Castaway rods and Shimano reels spooled with Triple Fish line. "I used 20# Triple fish line with a 10# P-Line leader, Ricky stated as he explained of how he fished Carolina rigged Mag-II redbug worms along 11' grassedges. Even though Ricky managed to catch a 3rd place stringer weight he was able to nail a 1st place big bass honor with his 6.97 lb "kicker" which pushed his 5 bass weight to 15.94 lbs.
