Howard & Hester Win on "The Bend"
By Anglers Choice Staff

North Louisiana Team Circuit
Saturday, January 29,2000 - Huxley Bay Marina - Toledo Bend, TX/LA.
Sixty-Two teams braved the near freezing temperatures, for the most part to find uncooperative fish. What do you expect when the temperature drops from near 80 degrees, and the water temperature drops from the mid 50's to 40 degrees from the previous weekend. Large catches were being reported, and estimations of the winning stringer ranged from 23 to 28 pounds. Many anglers had said the fish were in their pre-spawn, staging pattern, and they had been catching them on spinner baits and rattle traps, around four foot of water, with a drop off near by. The pattern did not change for some of the fishermen today, as that pattern produced the first and second place stringers.

First place went to the team of Gordon Howard and Jerry Hester, who brought in one of the few 5 fish limits. Their winning catch weighed in at 21.33 lbs. Second place catch of 19.58 lbs belonged to Chad and Al Kelley. Chad recently moved to this area from Wichita Falls, TX; he and his father, Al competed on the North Texas Anglers Choice before the move to North Louisiana. Another interesting point about Chad is that he is the area rep. for Mercury Outboards, who is the title sponsor for the Anglers Choice National Championship, along with their being one of the major sponsors of the entire Angler's Tournament Circuit. We are very glad to have Chad and Al fishing with us this year.

Howard and Hester reported their winning catch was caught on 3/8 oz. Black, brown and amber Santone jig with a watermelon Be A Hog by Mister Twister for a trailer. They culled 2 fish through out the day, while fishing in 2 to 7 foot drains, just off of a large flat. They found these fish while pre-fishing, and because of the warm weather we had been having, they were afraid the fish would scatter over the flats if the same weather pattern held. In their case the cold front was helpful in their victory. The second place stringer came on a very similar pattern, with a 4 to 12 foot drain being the ticket for day. _ oz. Stanley Spinner baits, in a gold brim color, slow rolled was the key for the Kelly's.

Greg Williams caught big Bass of 8.13; his partner is Jimmy Duck Jr.

Angler's Choice National Sponsors are BassCat Boats, Mercury Outboards, Berkley, T.H Marine, Abu Garcia, Die Hard Marine Batteries, Fenwick, Big Foot Marine Products, Motor Guide, Please Release Me, and Cabelas. North Louisiana anglers Choice Major Sponsors are Morgan GMC, Power Tech Propellers, Kelly's and Lucky Jacks Video Poker Parlors and American Dust Control. The tournament staff wants to thank the helpers for their dedication and effort on a very cold and
uncomfortable day. We could not do it with out them.
