By Ed Snyder

- 5 bass/18.79 claims "tight" win -

Anglers Choice East TX Team Series -2000-
Saturday, February 26, 2000, Twin Dikes Marina, Lake Sam Rayburn, TX.

Before 8:07am this morning it was 72 degrees, but by 8:10am it was 54 degrees "AND RAINING" as Mother Nature blended just the right amount moist Gulf air with just enough dry cold air "incomings" to produce some sorely needed "liquid gold" and a temporary reprieve for Rayburn's parched drouth conditions, and as the much needed "gusting"rains drenched the 76 Amateur Teams who launched for todays Anglers Choice tournament, most took advantage of this welcomed respite to find some good bass-weights which put the top 5 leaderboard listings to within 1.34 lbs of each other "and" the top 3 big bass weights within .07 ozs..."Close Tournament"...very close indeed!!

(1st-5 bass/18.79 lbs)-Albert White of Houston TX, and Bill Harlan of Crosby TX, managed to hook 9 bass from their northlake pattern of working standing timber and drains with 3/4 oz white/white Bumper Stumper spinner baits w/double willows. "We were fishing with our brand new Skeeter/Yamaha, stated the duo as they explained how they fished Falcon rods and Quantum reels spooled with 20# P-line while slow-rolling 2' to 6' standing timber and drains. "We lost 2 of our 9 bass today, grimaced the 1st place team as they informed that one of those lost bass was in the double digits. The 1st place team took home $1,050 for their "first ever" win.

(2nd-5 bass/18.35 lbs)-Henry Parsons & Mike Curry of Baytown TX, ran their Champion/Mercury bass-rig to Black Forest stumps today as they worked Allstar & Castaway rods with Shimano reels spooled with Berkely BG-12# to 20# mono. "We mainly fished with TX rigged sourgrape and junebug Zoom U-Tails today, they explained as the told of working 4' to 6' Black Forest stumps for catching an all day bite for 19 bass, culling their last bass by 1:pm for their 2nd place check of $800.

(3rd-5 bass/18.16 lbs)-Richard Carpenter and John Jordan of Jasper TX, put their Ranger/Mercury among'st southlake grass today while fishing Castaway rods and Shimano & Quantum reels spooled with Berkely 15# mono. "We worked carolina rigged watermelon Zoom lizards and blue/ chartreuse Strike King model-6 crankbaits along 6' to 10' deep-grass edges for an early bite, they stated while informing of catching 8 bass "before" the monsoon hit. The Jasper team managed a 3rd place payday of $550.

(Overall Big Bass-(6.97 lbs)-Pat Fisher and Wray Woods of Bryan TX, fished shallow 3' Farmers Flats-grass today when Wray Woods managed to stick a 2:pm bite on a junebug wacky worm for catching the 6.97 "overall" for a $380 payday.
