5 Bass/16.4 Lbs Tops Rayburn Hospice Benefit

Bass-N-East Texas 4th Annual Charity Tournament

Sunday, April 9, 2000, Shirley Creek Marina, Lake Sam Rayburn, TX.

With 62 Adult teams and 8 children fishing the 4th Annual Hospice Benefit at Shirley Creek Marina it was expected to have some exciting weigh-in's during the daylong fishing tournament -"and it was" - with the children stealing a major part of the show with their incredible catches of bass, crappie, and "GOO".

"Bass-N-East Texas & "The Bass-n-Gals & Guys" are Honey Hole affiliated clubs, explained director, "which presently has 60 members which strongly support the organization projects such as this tournament which benefits the "Friends of Hospice, Inc., of Lufkin , TX. "The Friends of Hospice, she continued, "are a supporting non-profit group which assists the needy patients with "the other" important needs such as electric bills, trip expenses, or even building ramps for the physically impaired-(just to name a few)-. "We're are a Nacogdoches TX, organization, she informed, "that operates for the assistance of those who are in need throughout the entire East Texas area, and this tournament event helps us to raise some of the funds needed to operate those "very important" projects.

(1st place adult division-5 bass/16.4 lbs-Bryan Schott and Jeff Slaga of Lufkin TX, fished Carolina rigged green/pumpkin Zoom lizards along Black Forest scattered grass-clumps in 5' of water to catch 9 bass that culled to their 16.4 lb winning weight, which included the #1 big bass of 6.85 lbs caught by Brian Schott on a noon-bite.

(2nd place adult division-5 bass/15.05 lbs)- Jason Moore and Chip Holt of Nacogdoches TX, worked Carolina rigged pumpkin/seed and watermelon Zoom lizards along 6' to 10' inside grass-edges to catch at least 15 bass from the 147 Bridge area for their 15.05 lb 2nd place finish.

(#2 adult division big bass- 6.45 lbs)- Justin and Tanis Bass of Nacogdoches TX, fished the San Augustine Park area with "that ugly thing with red-glitter" in it,Tanis tried to explain, as she told about her husband catching his 6.45 lb bass at 8:am.

(1st place children's division-1 bass/1.80 lbs)-Four year old Taylor Parker of Nacogdoches TX, caught his bass from the Shirley Creek Marina shoreline while floatin' live minnows just ahead of his brother-
(2nd place children's division-1 bass/1.55 lbs)-Five year old Tyler Parker of Nacogdoches TX, caught his bass while trying to catch up to his brother-(who had the quicker minnow)-
(3rd place children's division-1 "GOO"/2.45 lbs)- "wurmz" stated 5 year old Nacogdoches TX, anglerette, Kourtney Stone, as she informed of how she caught her "GOO" while fishin' from the Shirley Creek Marina shoreline.
