Texas 100 Team Tournament Trail-
Sunday, October 29, 2000, Twin Dikes Park, Lake Sam Rayburn, TX.

"This is the first tournament event that we've ever won" explained a very happy and excited angler as his team partner gave him a fatherly kiss, the father & son duo managed to catch a 10 bass/35.45 lb final to claim the "braggin-rights" to the 3rd Annual Texas 100 Team Championship on Lake Sam Rayburn. The Colorado region team had fished against 115 teams who represented the 5 tournament districts of Texas.

"This is our 3 rd year of operations now, explained Tournament Director, Floyd Yarbrough as he informed about the fledgling tournament group which is based in Dallas/Ft Worth. "Our tournament groups represent the Colorado River, Brazos River, Trinity River, Red River, and West Texas regions, Floyd advised, further explaining that they were a fast growing organization with a 100% entry fee payback format. The #1 team of this Championship, informed the Publishing/Editor of "The Outdoor Times" magazine, "will be a fully rigged $22,000 Renegade 19 Javelin/Johnson Bass-rig and a $600 set of Championship rings provided by TVJ Sports Jewelry of FT. Worth.

Mild pre-front weather conditions provided light winds and sunny to over-casting skies for both days of the tournament as the team anglers probed the far reaches of the lake to find their bass-bites. Good weights were weighed-in on both days of the event, which topped out at 35.45 lbs.

1st place team-(10 bass/35.45 -lbs )- The Rice Crossing father & son Team of Ray Crain and Ray JR., put their Cobra/Johnson bass-rig over Mill Creek outside grass-edges for the morning bites on black/white Mann's Spittin' Chugs and 3/8 oz white War Eagle spinner baits, then went to Veach basin to work 8' grass-lines with ½ oz blue/black Oldham jigs w/chartreuse Brush-hawgs. "The "Crain Trucking" Colorado region fishing team caught their limit by 9:am on day-1 and by 7:30 am on day-2 for catching their 1st place Championship win.

2nd place team-(10 bass/23.45 -lbs )- Kelly Chesney of Springtown TX, and Wes Winstead of Azle TX, put their Champion/Yamaha over Black Forest and Veach Basin 15' humps and 12' to 15' deep-grass both days. The Brazos River region team worked Allstar rods and Garcia reels spooled with 30 lb test Berkley Power braid. "The "Fun-n-Sun Marine" team fished Carolina rigged kudzu lizards and 1/2 oz white Lunker Lure buzz-baits to catch a slow bite on day-1 and an early bite on day-2 for culling their 2nd place finish.

3rd place team-(10 bass/23.25 -lbs )-Brazos River region team, M.G. Posel and Kirk Brown of Roanoke TX, put their Ranger/Mercury bass-rig near San Augustine Bay and Needmore Point grass-beds both days to catch their 3 rd place finish. The team worked Allstar rods and Shimano reels spooled with 20 lb test Berkley Big game mono while fishing redbug Zoom wacky worms and ½ oz white/white Lunker Lure buzz-baits. The 3 rd place team concentrated on 6' to 8' grass in the San Augustine area and 8' to 9' grass on Needmore to catch their 2-day weight.

Overall Big Bass-( 6.00 -bs)- Jerry Crowley of Lewisville TX, was fishing with Wayne Heppel of Eagle Mountain TX, up in the Mill Creek area when Jerry, while fishing with an Allstar rod and Abu-Garcia reel spooled with Berkley Big Game mono, nailed the 6.00 "overall" big bass on a ¼ oz white buzz-bait. "The bass "flushed the toilet" on a 7:am big-bite informed the Brazos River region angler.
