Father/Son Team Capture Lake Livingston Team Tournament
Bass N Bucks 2001 East Texas Team Circuit

Sunday, June 3, 2001 - Waterwood National Resort and Country Club, Lake Livingston, TX. ....

Partly cloudy, summerlike conditions greeted the 170 teams participating in the Lake Livingston Tournament of the 2001 Bass N Bucks East Texas Team Circuit, this morning. Many of the anglers hopes were high as they slowly idled away from the docks at scenic Waterwood National Resort and Country Club. Slightly over $43,000 in cash and prizes were on the line with a brand new 2001 Skeeter bass boat powered by a 2001 Yamaha outboard at the top of the pile, not to mention those valuable end-of-the-year championship points. The anglers would bring in 54 limits and a total of 475 fish weighing 1040 lbs for an average weight of 2.2 lbs. That's almost 1/3 of the field bringing in a limit and with many stories of numerous short fish being caught, it is easy to see that the black bass population of Lake Livingston is on the rise.

1st place team-(5 bass/14.64 lbs.) -Tom Pegoda/Kyle Farris - "We ran north and fished some cuts off of the river," shared proud papa Tom Pegoda. "We probably caught 25 fish today but only 6 keepers. We had our limit by 9:30 this morning on chartreuse spinnerbaits 1/4 oz. black/chartreuse jigs with a brown pork trailer. Everything came from 1' to 2' of water. We caught fish 'till about noon and then things just shut down. I was really proud of Kyle out there today. I had caught our limit but I had one that just barely hit the 14" line that I really wanted to cull. Kyle had been catching some short fish and then he caught a keeper about 14 3/4" long to cull my short one. He got real excited then and said, "Daddy, does this mean I get to go next time?" and I said, "Yes, son. You're going to get to go a whole bunch more times.""

2nd place team-(5 bass/14.36 lbs.) - Nick Albus/Ed Loitz - "We probably caught 20 keepers today" stated Albus. "Almost everything came on 1/ 2 oz. black/blue jigs with black emerald brush hog trailers. We ran to some log jams on the river at the north end of the lake and we had our limit by 8:00 this morning. We caught a lot of keepers today. We caught 4 keepers off of one log but we couldn't get that kicker that we needed to get the keys to that new boat. All of our fish came from 3' to 5' of water that was kind of muddy and we didn't catch a single keeper after 1 o'clock. We really want to thank Skeeter/Yamaha for the $500 Skeeter Bonus that we received for being the highest finishing team fishing out of a Skeeter/Yamaha rig." The Trinity Texas team used Abu Garcia reels spooled with 50 lb. Spiderwire mounted on Castaway rods to subdue their catch. Second place paid $2,600 plus the Skeeter Bonus of $500.

4th place team-(5 bass/13.88 lbs.) - 2nd place Big Bass (5.40 lbs) - Jimmy & Todd Castledine - The Coldspring, Texas Father-Son Team of Jimmy & Todd Castledine ran their Stealth/Yamaha to the south lake area to fish Shimano reels spooled with Trilene Big Game mounted on Jessie Parker and All Star rods. "We caught at least 30 fish today but only had 5 keepers," shared Todd Castledine. "We caught fish all day, but didn't get our limit till around noon. Most of our fish came on a Carolina rig in 5' to 12' of water but the big fish came on a Texas rig watermelon worm at about 7 o'clock this morning. We caught some of our fish out of open water and some came from boat docks." The Castledines took home $1400 for 4th place overall and $500 for 2nd place big bass.
