Tournament Pathfinder
by John Presley

Last month I worked the Houston and San Antonio Boat Shows for Lowrance Electronics. This year Lowrance has several new units available for 2001. The new X-15 MT is the most fantastic sonar unit and GPS / Mapping unit that I have ever seen and its easy to use. The X-15 MT, target separation, resolution and underwater detail is better than the paper graph recorders. The unit has a large 6 ½ inch screen with 480 x 350 pixel for a total of 168,000 pixels that give you a high resolution display that produces unbelievable sonar and mapping screens. On this unit the brighter the direct sunlight on the screen, the better the screen appears .The unit also has a record and playback feature that holds two Multi-Media cards that lets you record and playback your sonar graphs and GPS trip details. The MMC cards up to 64MB will be available from Lowrance and computer and camera retailers. With the split -screen GPS and sonar combination you can enjoy the high resolution precise satellite view of your location from above, and a super -sharp look at what's under your boat. You will also have a great way to find and mark favorite spots for future return trips. The map on the X-15 MT is from the optional MapCreate CD-ROM software that is included with the GPS mapping accessories pack option. This unit can hold up to 1,000 waypoints, plus 1,000 event markers and up to 100 routes with up to 100 waypoints per route. The X-15 MT also has 10 savable plot trails with up to 10,000 points per trail and a choice of 42 different graphic icons to mark your favorite spots. If you been waiting for a color LCD screen Lowrance also has come out with the new X-15 CT that has quality color sonar with digital recording /playback and optional GPS and mapping. This unit has a 5.66 inch color transflective high resolution 320x240 pixel screen that produces great color sonar and mapping readability. It has a total of 76,800 pixels and with easy customization of the color display you can paint important underwater targets like the gamefish, baitfish, and bottom structure to match your personal color preferences. All the other specs are the same as the X-15 MT other than the amount of pixels, the size of the screen and the color screen. The other new unit by Lowrance is the Globalmap 3000MT. It is strictly a GPS, mapping and recording unit with a new large 6.54 inch screen. The Globalmap 3000Mt has a 480 x350 pixel display that produces fantastic mapping definition . You can customize your Globalmap 3000MT with the Lowrance MapCreate CD-ROM and optional Navionics software. Lowrance also has a new hand held GPS Mapping unit out this year called the I-Finder its only 2 -1/2 thick and has a larger screen than the Globalmap 100, so it will fit in your pocket and is available in several different colors. In this area Lowrance products can be purchased at most marine dealers, Academy Stores or BASS Pro shops. For more information on these new units or any other Lowrance units call 1-800-324-1356 or check out there web site at LOWRANCE.COM for a dealer near you. At the time of this article the lake is on the rise and getting in the bushes well we haven't seen that in awhile. This month the rattletrap fishing should really be great even though its been so cold. Its time to pull out those ½ oz and ¾ oz rattletraps in red and crawfish colors and start ripping the grass. The lake also has a good inside grassline right now that the big fish should be moving up and getting ready to make there move to spawn in the next few months.

By the way, when I am not fishing tournaments I am a full-time fishing guide on Lake Sam Rayburn. If you would like to book a trip please call me at 409-698-9713 or Ann's Tackle Shop at 409-384-7685. Or e-mail me at Error! Bookmark not defined.. of check out my website at SAMRAYBURNFISHING.COM.
