Of almost any sport I can think of, fishing is one that can truly be a "family affair". When parents take the time to introduce their children to fishing as toddlers and continue to develop their skills and love of the outdoors through their elementary school years, statistics show that these youngsters grow to be more well-rounded individuals. In most cases, they will continue to fish on and off during their young adult years and later, will pass this on to their own children.

As far back as I can remember, the female gender was practically banned from the sports of fishing and hunting. I'm not sure if it was all associated with the part of the country in which you were raised and the unreasonable fear that this would somehow take away from one's femininity, or that men felt such adventures were set aside only for themselves.
