Jig Pattern Takes Toledo Bass-N-Bucks

Skeeter/Yamaha Bass-N-Bucks 2001 East Texas Team Circuit
Sunday, March 8, 2001, Cypress Bend Resort, LA.

With 191 teams launching into the 4th event of the Bass-N-Bucks tournament trail, guesstimates for the weigh-in outcome were voiced to be anywhere from 18 to 26 lbs, and with the Mother Nature providing almost purr-fect Spring-like weather conditions with mid-80's and variable, but steady southerly breezes, it seemed that the weightier guesstimates would become the headliner for this event.... "Nada"

$460,000 is our guaranteed purse for our 2001 season, informed Bass-N-Bucks Director, David Concienne, "Which also provides an $85,000 Championship package for those anglers who qualify to fish it at Cypress Bend Resort on Toledo Bend Lake in September. "We will also be holding an event on Lake Fork April-29th, Concienne added, "As an open team event which have no membership required to fish that event. "And we have our special Skeeter/Yamaha Bonus Money contingency payouts for our anglers who fish and compete at these events in their Skeeter/Yamaha bass-boats. (See rules & regs for info)-

1st place team-(5 bass/19.86 lbs)- Phil Marks of Dallas TX, and Richard Draper of Cypress TX, maneuvered their Skeeter/Yamaha over 1215-flooded brush to work ½ oz black/blue Strike King Elite jigs with black/blue Larew craws. The 1st place team worked Castaway rods and Browning reels spooled with 20 lb test Stren Super-Tuff to catch their winning cull from a 10am to 2pm bite that produced 12 keeper bass.

2nd place team-( 5 bass/18-16 lbs)- Robert Royal and Alan Bond of Vidor TX, put their Ranger/Mercury bass-rig over 10' North-lake Hydrilla beds to work Falcon rods and Shimano reels spooled with 17 lb test P-line. The Vidor team fished Carolina rigged watermelon/chartreuse Zoom centipedes and watermelon wacky worms to catch 12 bass from 9:am to noon.

3rd place team-(5 bass/17.93 lbs)- Jesse parker and Rick Loomis of Lake Fork TX, hovered their Stealth/Yamaha bass-rig over submerged islands in the Patroon creek area to work Jesse Parker rods and Shimano reels spooled with 14 lb test P-line. The 3rd place team fished Denny Brauer watermelon Mega-Tubs and Senko's to catch their weight. Jesse also claimed the tournament overall big bass while fishing a white Senko when a 7.76 lb bass hit on a 9:30 am big bite.

4th place team-( 5 bass/17.84 lbs)- Ken Hayes of Leesville LA, and Craig Welborn of DeRidder LA, ran their Pro-craft/Mercury bass-rig to 1215 flooded brush to work Castaway rods and Abu-Garcia reels spooled with 12 lb test Berkley Tri-lene mono. The Louisiana team fished watermelon/candy Reaction wacky worms to catch 12 keeper bass between 10am to noon.

5th place team-(5 bass/17.30 lbs)- John Hale of Lufkin TX and Bill Cook of Houston TX put their BassCat/Mercury bass-rig over Beson Bay buck-brush to work Allstar rods and Shimano reels spooled with 65 lb test Power-Pro. The 5th place team fished pumpkin/green Berkley Power lizards to catch their weight between an 8:30 am to 9:am prime bite.
