Tournament Pathfinder
by John Presley

On Saturday March 31st, I got the opportunity to fish the 6th Annual Tracy Byrd Tournament on Lake Sam Rayburn with a very special 13 year old, Crystal Holton. Crystal is in direr need of a liver transplant. She is currently at the top of the list at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. Her family has to be in constant contact with the hospital with a beeper. And when she is contacted by the hospital, she has to be in Houston within 6 hours. Crystal is a 8th grader attending Jasper school district. She is currently taking 4 different medications and is on a special diet. Expenses are very high due to the frequent trips she has to make to the hospital. Crystal is a very sweet little girl who loves life and loves to fish. If you would like to donate money please contact Jackie at Jasper Banking Center (409-383-0999).

It was Crystal's dream to fish the tournament so that Saturday, Crystal, her grandfather Larry Pigott and I started fishing at 6:00am. By 6:15 am Crystal caught her first fish on a texas rig lizard. Of all the tournaments I fish, this was one of the most rewarding, getting to see Crystal weigh-in in her 2 pound 15 oz fish during the second hour. She ended up finishing 7th for that hour and 52nd overall in the tournament. Crystal also weighed in a 1 pound 6 oz fish duing the last hour. She also got to meet and take pictures with Tracy Byrd.

This was a homecoming weekend for Tracy Byrd who had a concert at the Beaumont Civic Center on Friday, the big bass tournament at Sam Rayburn on Saturday and finished off with a golf tournament at the Bayou Din Golf Club in Beaumont on Sunday, all to help benefit Children's Miracle Network. There was a good crowd at the tournament weigh-in which had to be moved to Twin Dikes Park due to the high water at Twin Dikes Marina. There were 5 hourly Big Bass prizes awarded and overall 30th places were paid with 1st place winning a 518VS Ranger. I would like to thank Tracy for putting on a great tournament and David Concienne, the tournament director. I would also like to thank Ann's Tackle Shop and KWYX 102.7 Radio in Jasper. Please plan to fish next year if you can, this benefits a very good cause.

In my next article, I will give you the results of the BASS Central Invitational at Table Rock Missouri. By the way, when I am not fishing tournaments I am a full-time fishing guide on Lake Sam Rayburn. If you would like to book a trip please call me at 409-698-9713 or Ann's Tackle Shop at 409-384-7685.
