By Ed Snyder

Sealy Outdoors $200,000 Open Team/Splash 2001 Tournament Circuit.
Sunday, March 25, 2001, Twin Dikes Park, Lake Sam Rayburn, TX.

Post-front blue-birds and choppy north winds ruled the day as 229 teams fished under high pressure sun shine and high water conditions. "Post-spawn bass was our winning pattern today, informed the Louisiana team who collected the $12,000 1st place catch as they informed of targeting post-spawn females that were resting along creek-ditch edges.

Guaranteed $200,000 in cash & prizes for our team/splash anglers, stated CEO/Tournament Director, Bob Sealy, "Which awards a $37,000 "Guaranteed" tournament package for every team/splash event "Regardless" of team entry numbers. "Our team/splash tournaments pay the top 25 teams per event with $12,000 "CASH" for 1st and $5,000 "CASH" for 2nd with another $1,900 paid for the top three big bass of each event. "This is a four tournament circuit with two team events held on Rayburn and two on Toledo Bend, which holds a split-lake team championship at the end of the season. "Due to high water and limited ramps trailering was allowed for this event, stated Bob as he informed of also having to move the weigh-in site to the higher ground of Twin Dikes Park.

1st place team-(5 bass/17.61 lbs)- Green Chevrolet Pro/Team Ken Hayes of Leesville LA, and Kraig Welborn of DeRidder LA, put their Procraft/Mercury over Ayish Bayou ditches to work Castaway rods and Abu-Garcia reels spooled with 65 lb test Berkley whip-lash braid and 12 lb test Trilene mono. "The bucks were already guarding the beds as the sows had moved out, they informed as they told of flipping green/pumpkin Reaction gator-dogs and watermelon/candy Reaction gator-pups and trick-worms along 4' to 8' ditch-edges that had flooded bushes which were holding the post-spawn females. "We managed to catch 15 keepers today from an all day bite that gave us our $12,000 1st place win.

2nd place team-( 5 bass/17.26 lbs)- Longview Marine Pro/Team Stan Burgay of Timpson TX, and Mark Heron of Alexander LA, ran their Champion/Mercury to north-lake bushes to work Allstar rods and Shimano reels spooled with 50 lb test Pro-line. "We kept to the 6' to 8' bushes today, answered the 2nd place team as they informed of fishing TX rigged black/blue Stanley tuba-tubes to catch their limit by 7:05 am, but went on to catch another 20 keeper bass for culling up their $5,000 payday.

3rd place team-(5 bass/17.25 lbs)- Dawson Marine Pro/Team Dicky Newberry and John Gunnels of Houston TX, kept their Skeeter/Yamaha bass-rig down south as they worked Falcon rods and Shimano reels spooled with 50 lb test Spider-Wire. The 3rd place team fished 2' to 3' hardwoods with 3/8 oz black/blue Stanley jigs with black/blue Larew craws and ½ oz black/blue Oldham jigs to catch 15 to 18 bass from an all day bite that put the 3rd place $2,500 check in there tackle-pack. "MAN, griped Newberry, "I lost three good bass today from just dumb accidents that would've made the difference between 3rd and 1st place!!
