By Ed Snyder

Sealy Outdoors 2001 Open Team/Splash $200,000 Tournament Circuit.
Sunday, May 20, 2001, Twin Dikes Marina, Lake Sam Rayburn, TX.

Strong, gusting southerly winds, and near 90 degree summer-like heat didn't seem to deter the 318 teamed anglers who entered the Sealy Outdoors Team/Splash event, nor did it seem to bother the bass-bites as 483 fish weighing 1,089 lbs were weighed-in at Twin Dikes Marina. Among those tournament limits were the 5 bass/22.53 lb sack belonging to the team of Matt Reed and Ricky Friedrich who "dominated" the first place slot with their 9.90 Lb "kicker" caught from a last minute "hunch".

$200,000 in cash & prizes has been our tournament "guarantee" for this years team/splash events, stated CEO/Tournament Director, Bob Sealy, "Awarding $37,000 in tournament winnings for every team/splash event "regardless" of team entry numbers. The duo had only 30 minutes to fish as they worked Castaway/Shimano rods and Shimano reels spooled with 60 lb test Spider-Wire, when Matt set his hook into the 9.90 kicker on a 3:20 pm big bite, anchoring their 1st place win and their $13,000 paycheck.
