59.42 lb Finish Takes "Top Club" Honors -

30th Annual Texas Association of Bass Clubs Championship
Sunday, June 3, 2001, Twin Dikes Park, Lake Sam Rayburn, TX.

"It took a real good team effort to win this "VERY TUFF" TABC Championship, stated Clear Creek Bass Club Captain, Skip Young, "As he informed about their 2 days of competition against some of the best bass club teams in Texas. "We shared our practice together then culled the negatives and fished with the positives. The Clear Creek Bass Club managed to put together a 22 bass/59.42 lb two day weight to claim the "Braggin' Rights" of being the BEST TABC Bass Club in Lone Star State.........."Bar None!!"

TABC Recap-Day-1- "HOT & HUMID" 90 -plus- degree weather greeted the 23 TABC clubs who arrived from all corners of the Lone Star State to compete at this two day TABC Club Championship with first day lead going to the 14 bass/40.89 lb catch of the Clear Creek Bass Club anchored by the 5 bass/17.64 lb team-weight of Walt Simmons and Connie Reed who fished TX rigged Ann's Tackle Shop 7" crab-apple Bandit tailed worms along shallow mid-lake grass-lines in 7' to 10' of water, which included the day-1 overall big bass honor for their 6.70 lb big bite.

Day-2 Finals- HOT & HUMID continued to dominate the weather pattern as the top TABC club teams fished their final day techs for winning this Championship. But the wind devil decided to come to play today as gusting southwest winds played havoc with final day bassin' patterns. And with final day tournament hours being "snipped" short to a 10:30 am to 12:Noon weigh-in, their final day tally would mark their struggle.

2001 TABC 30th Annual Championship Club-(22 bass/59.42 lbs)- Clear Creek Bass Club, a Houston based club, put their top 4 clubs on Farmers Flats for fishing jigs and TX rigged Zoom watermelon lizards along point-drops, over Caney Creek shallow points & beanie bushes to work 4' to 5' breaks with Ann's Tackle Shop 7" Bandit tailed crab-apple worms, and Veach Basin 15' to 18' deep grass-lines to fish TX rigged watermelon/red chartreuse tailed baby brush hogs and TX rigged sour grape worms. "The gusting winds made it very difficult for us today, they explained, "But the team of Simmons and Reed managed to anchor our Championship efforts with their 17.64 and 11.78 lb weights, which gave them the honors for catching the top team-weights for both days. "We would also like to thank Ann Thomason Wilson, of Ann's Tackle Shop in Jasper TX, for helping us locate and catch the bass we needed to win this event, "For without her & her staff, they lauded, "We just wouldn't be "THE BEST" bass club in Texas!!"

Day-2 Overall Big Bass-(6.39)-The Travis Bassmaster's claimed the 2nd day big bass honor with Mark Nueschwanger lily pad bass which was caught on a baby brush hog up on an Ayish Bayou creek channel drop-off.
