Kids Klassic Day Becomes "Signature" Opener For World Championship

Today was Federation day as the backbone of the BASS organization, 50,000 strong, arrived from 44 states and 5 countries to attend and coordinate the Kids Klassic event being held at Lafreniere Park in Metarie, LA, a suburb of New Orleans. Sponsored by the 2,800 affiliated BASS Federation clubs, this important, and very popular opening for the BASSMaster World Classic's, drew children from all over the U.S.A. as well as fifty one BASS Federation club groups.

The Kids Klassic, limited to 1,000 kiddy anglers, began fishing two flights of 500 children groups, with the first group fishing between 9am -to-10 am, and the second flight of kiddy anglers fishing betwixt 10:30 am -to- 11:30 am. This very special event wrapped up at noon where each kiddy angler received a free Zebco "Let's Go Fishing" rod & reel combo, plus a tee shirt and cap provided for them by the Kids Klassic sponsors. Supervision and assistance was provided by the B.A.S.S. Chapter Federation clubs, whose members conduct youth fishing events such as BASSMASTER Casting Kids competition throughout the U.S.A., where children have a chance to display their casting skills by casting, pitching and flipping for points and an opportunity to qualify their skills for attending the BASSMaster World Classic as a Casting Kids competitor.

The Kids Klassic event included fishing tackle demonstrations and sport-fishing exhibits by the Classic sponsors, plus clowns, face painters and much, much, more. BASS Classic souvenirs and merchandise was also made available for sale to the hundreds of public spectators who attended this wonderful event to watch, take photos, and to get a chance to mingle with the 45 World Classic Bass/Pro's who, as a bonus attraction for the attending fans and Kids Klassic anglers, provided a personal autograph session that began at 8 am with the 45 Classic pros arriving to meet the fans and Kiddy Klassic anglers, pose for pictures, sign autographs, and mingle with the public.

Presented by BASS, the world's largest freshwater fishing tournament organization, The BASSMASTER Tournament Trail is the oldest and most prestigious pro bass fishing tournament circuit, and continues to set the standard for credibility, professionalism, and sportsmanship after more than three decades. B.A.S.S. is a wholly owned subsidiary of ESPN.

ESPN2 will showcase the 2001 BASS Masters Classic during each day of competition with same-day coverage on Thursday, August 2nd and Friday August 3rd taking place from 6 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. (Eastern). ESPN2 will also provide live updates on Saturday, August 4th, from 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. as well as covering the final weigh-in from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Additionally, ESPN2 will present a one-hour special on the 2001 BASS Masters Classic set for New Orleans in early August. The telecast is August 18 at 9 p.m. (Eastern). The program will provide complete coverage of bass fishing's world championship held on the sprawling Louisiana Delta.
