Angler's Choice Amateur Team Championship - Lake Sam Rayburn - Twin Dikes Marina -September 22 & 23, 2001

Dodging scattered showers on the final day of competition for the Angler's Choice Amateur Team Championship the angler's fought hard and heavy for their weights to win the championship. Weights were tallied and tight, while places were being formed and bumped by mere increments. Forty teams qualified to fish this event, and 39 of those teams came to fish. At the completion of day one all but one team weighed fish adding pressure to all the teams to do well this final day.

Michael Evans and Tommy Loving of Tomball, TX was in 3rd place overall lead and had tied for 2nd place big bass with a 6.47 lb kicker at the end of day one. Having confidence in their areas and patterns they continued to work their buzzbaits, spinnerbaits and topwaters in the south lake area. They fished in 4-6' hydrilla in the pockets off of creek beds and culled 2 limits of fish to bring in 15.21 lbs today for a total 2-day weight of 32.34 lbs securing their first place championship title and a check for $4,000.00. Vince Neal and Harold Moore of Caldwell, TX brought in a limit weighing 17.83 lbs with a 6.47 lb kicker fish tied for 2nd place big bass on day 1. They brought in a weight of 13.16 lbs giving them a 2-day total of 30.99 lbs putting them in 2nd place overall. They caught their fish on 3/4 oz camo jigs and pumpkin green craw worms in 13' of grass in the mid lake area. Their best bite came in the morning until 10:00am. Their 2nd place overall win won them a check for $2,500.00. This team was the most bid upon team in the Calcutta side pot.

Richard Carpenter and John Jordan came from 4th place at the end of day one to 3rd place overall, bringing in 13.66 lbs on day 2 for a total weight of 30.30 lbs. They flipped Texas rigged worms in 10' of water along the grass edges along the main lake. They caught fish all day but their best bite came from 10:00 to 2:00. They felt as though if they had a little spot of sunshine throughout the day their fish would have bit a little better, but their efforts paid off with a check for $1,500.00

Carl Trussel and Robert Sims of Orange, TX brought in the big bass for day 2 weighing 6.29 lbs, earning them a check for $230.00. They caught their big bass at 1:00 carolina rigging in 11' of grass in the mid lake area. They reported having a good bite all day, catching about 25 fish in all today.

Stanley Mayoshi caught his big bass on day 1 of the tournament "on a worm" weighing 6.64 lbs which held for Big Bass overall.
