Nichols Longview Marine "Champion Boat Owners" Customer Appreciation Team Tournament
Sunday, October 21, 2001, Cypress Bend Resort, Lake Toledo Bend, LA.

Shifting skies and light southwesterly winds greeted the final day competitors as they dug a little deeper into their tackle packs for the winning combo that would put the first place $10,000 cash reward into their pockets. And that winning team managed to come in early with a rather "hefty" sack of Toledo Bend bass. "Ten bass, thirty nine, point, seventeen pounds, announced weigh-master David Concienne to the crowd, "your first place winners folks, Glen Freeman and Hank Williams.

"We've had a good tournament here this weekend, stated James Bridges of Longview Marine, "and even though we had a lower than normal entry than from past years, due to the low lake levels, "we still enjoyed having a great time here at Cypress Bend Resort on Lake Toledo Bend. "And to those anglers who decided to hang back and not fish this event because of our lower than normal turn-out-, "well, the 148 anglers who did decide to fish and compete in this quality event "thank you" as you greatly increased their odds at winning the $10,000 cash guarantee that we paid out to the first place winners. "Best mark your tournament calendars for the 3rd weekend of October for 2002, Bridges strongly advised, "for we are definitely coming back to this "incredible" lake.

Champion ReCap: Light south-east winds and warming sunshine provided the first day bassin' patterns, giving 1st place lead to the 5 bass/22.87 lb catch of Randy Smotherman of Shelbyville and James Owens of Huxley TX, who fished mud-bugs along dirt shallow to 10' mid-lake underwater points to catch their weight, which included a 5.79 "kicker" caught by James on a 9:30 am big bite.

Day-2- Day two almost imaged first day weather patterns, but the bass bite seemed much better with much bigger bass after the winds switched to the southwest, with much larger weights being recorded for the leader-board.

1st place-(10 bass/39.71 lbs)- Glen Freeman of Converse and Hank Williams of Haughton LA, put their Champion/Yamaha bass-rig over Converse area ridge-drops to work ½ oz black/blue Cyclone jigs with Zoom chunks, Bomber fire-tiger crank-baits, and TX rigged Reaction june-bug gator-tubes. The Longview Marina Pro/Team fished with Shimano rods and reels spooled with 15 lb test Izor line to catch their 2nd day weight of 5 bass/23.60 lbs from 8' to 15' Converse ridge-drops, giving them a total of 10 bass/39.71 lbs and the 1st place win for a $10,000 paycheck. "We fished our same patterns today as we did yesterday, Glen stated, "but the bass were much bigger today.

2nd place -(10 bass/33.78 lbs)- Randy Smotherman of Shelbyville and James Owens of Huxley TX, fished Falcon rods and Lews reels spooled with 17 lb test P-line. The north Toledo team worked mudbugs along dirt shallow to 10' mid-lake underwater points to catch their weight, which included a 5.79 "kicker" caught by James on a 9:30 am big bite. "We fished the same patterns today but only caught 5 bass/10.91 lbs, Randy informed as he and James stepped up to claim their 2nd place awards.

3rd place- (10 bass/28.57 lbs)- Stacy and Dion Young of West Monroe LA, put their down on south-lake ridge-grass to work Allstar rods and Ambassadeur reels spooled with 17 lb test Stren. The brothers fishing team fished ½ oz white/chartreuse Terminator spinner-baits with white MR Twister trailers to catch 5 bass/15.87 lbs from the edges of 3' to 5' ridge-grass for their 3rd place finish, which included a 6.67 lb "kicker" caught by Stacy on an 11am big bite, which held as the "overall" big bass of the tournament.
