Tournament Pathfinder
by John Presley

The 47th Annual Houston Boat Sport and Travel show will run from January 4-13 in Houston,Texas. This will be my 26th year to participate in this boat show. This is one boat show worth taking the whole family to see and enjoy. There will be all types of boats for sale and on display from large yachts to rubber rafts. Bass boats from all major manufactures will also be there with their new products and the factory reps who represent them. The engine manufactures such as Evinrude, Mercury Outboards, Yamaha Outboards, Suzuki and others will also be represented at this show. The arena area is filled with fishing rod, reel and lure manufactures and reps to help you choose the right combination for you. If your looking for the latest in fish finders, sonar or GPS navigation units there will be plenty on display and for sale. I will be working at the Lowrance Electronics display booth in the arena so come by and visit me.

Lowrance has sonar units, GPS navigational mapping units in both console mounts or hand held. Some of the new units for this year are the X-51, X-71, X-91, Global Map 2400 and LMS 240. The LMS 240 is a combination sonar/GPS. All of these units have sporty new compact case designs and enhanced resolution and improved shallow water performance, wider underwater fish detection coverage of up to 60 degrees with a newly designed 200 kHz skimmer transducer. For more details come by the Lowrance booth or call 1-800-324-1356 or visit lowrance.com. The show is filled with fishing and hunting guides from all over Texas and other parts of the country that you can visit and ask questions about their guide service. Several booths have travel agencies if you want to plan your next vacation or fishing or hunting trip. Through out the week local hunting and professional fishing guides and touring BASS pros give seminars on fishing and hunting. The kids can catch rainbow trout from a large tank sponsored by a local radio station. If you're not really into fishing or hunting but love boating there are all types of water sport toys to see also, such as the latest in water skies, wake boards, toobs and waverunners. The show also has booths with scuba diving gear and accessory products for the diving enthuses. Also come by the Lakecaster booth, it is always filled with the new tournament entry forms for all the up and coming tournaments of the new year and plenty of information, because it's the Lakes Area #1 Promotional Magazine. The Houston boat show is well worth attending so I hope to see you there.

Don't forget during the third week of February the Bassmaster Citgo Central Open will be on Sam Rayburn. The tournament will be held at Twin Dikes Marina. This should be a exciting event with some big stringers such as last year when it took 55-12 to win, so try to be there.

This month the rattletrap fishing should really be great even though its been cold. Its time to pull out those ½ oz and ¾ oz rattletraps in red and crawfish colors and start ripping the grass. The lake also has a good inside grassline right now that the big fish should be moving up and getting ready to make there move to spawn in the next few months.

By the way, when I am not fishing tournaments. I am a full-time fishing guide on Lake Sam Rayburn. If you would like to book a trip please call me at 409-698-9713 or Ann's Tackle Shop at 409-384-7685. Or e-mail me at JOHN@SAMRAYBURNFISHING.COM. or check out my website at SAMRAYBURNFISHING.COM.

Good Luck and Good Fishing.
