With previous days of warm, sunny skies giving way to the damp, cloudy, doldrums of wintering weather, it meant but one thing was about to happen, "Tournament-day" had arrived on Lake Sam Rayburn. Launching into their first event of the season were 80 South/East Texas BASS Federation anglers who fished under rain-soaked pre-fronts and chilly post northerly blue-birds. 2nd place-(5 bass/16.46 lbs)- Trey Ellis of Vidor Bass ran his Stratos/Evinrude over to Buck Bay grass-flats to work Castaway rods and Shimano reels spooled with 14 lb test Berkley Big Game mono. The Houston TX, angler fished 3 / 4 oz crawfish Rattle Traps and C-rigged watermelon Zoom lizards along 6'-8' grass-clumps to catch an all day bite for a 2 nd place finish.

3rd place-(5 bass/16.03 lbs)- Carl Skiles of Groves TX, maneuvered his Champion/Mercury bass-rig over mid-lake grass-beds to work Allstar rods and Shimano reels spooled with 15 lb test Tri-lene. The Vidor Bass Club angler fished 1 / 2 oz fire-tiger Rattle Traps along 3'-5' inside grass-lines to catch his 3 rd place weight from an 8am to 10am bite.

The Kountze TX, angler was working a 6'-8' grass-clump with a 1 / 2 oz crawfish/orange Rattle Trap when his 6.44 lb "overall" hit on a 1pm big bite.
