Super Bowl Sunday, January 03, 2002, Cypress Bend Resort, lake Toledo Bend, LA.
Not far from where Patriots -VS- Rams were running gridiron plays to claim the Super Bowl Football Championship in New Orleans, were 500 teamed anglers running their bassin' patterns on Toledo Bend waters for claiming the "Top-Spot" for the Bass-n-Bucks team tournament at Cypress Bend Resort. And plenty of bass were caught by these anglers who managed to bring an incredible 886 bass across the scales weighing over 2,232 lbs, giving the winning mark to a 5 bass/24.43 lb catch.
"We will have a guaranteed payback over $42,000.00 in cash and prizes per each Bass-N-Bucks event with a total payout of over $375,000 for the 2002 Tournament season, stated Tournament Director, David Concienne, "and we wish to thank all of our team members and our fine sponsors for their excellent support of the 2002 season. 1st place-(5 bass/24.43 lbs)- George Jean JR. of Evans and Jerry Brittain of Leesville LA, put their Procraft/Mercury bass-rig over south-lake grass to work Castaway rods and Quantum reels spooled with 12 lb test Berkley Big Game mono. The 1st place team managed to catch their winning weight by fishing crawfish colored DD-22's along 15-20 ft grass-edges, which included 3rd big bass honors for George's 7.27 lb big bite at 1:pm.

2nd place-(5 bass/21.75 lbs)- Charley Westmoreland and Butch Covington of Lake Charles LA, ran their Bullet/Yamaha bass-rig to north-lake grass to work Kistler rods and Shimano reels spooled with 12 lb test Maxima. The 2 nd place anglers fished parrot colored Norman DD-14's along 8'-12' grass edges to catch their 2 nd place win.

3rd place-(5 bass/21.05 lbs)- David Truax and Darren Truax of Beaumont TX, put their Nitro/Mercury bass-rig over south-lake grass-flats to work Phlueger rods and Quantum reels spooled with 17 lb test Mason line. The father & son team fished 3 / 4 & 1 / 2 oz crawfish colored Traps to catch their weight from 7'-12' grass-flat edges, which included the overall big bass of 7.58 lbs caught by David on an 8am big bite.

2nd big bass(7.41)-Lake Area Marine anglers, David Rabalais and Steve Goff of Lake Charles LA, put their Champion/Mercury bass-rig over south-lake grass-flats to work Falcon rods and Shimano reels spooled with 15 lb test P-line, when David fished a Tennessee shad DD-22 along 7'-12' grass-flat edges to catch his 7.41 big bass at 8am.

This tournament paid out $46,000 in cash & prizes to the top 33 anglers with a 14.67 lb cut-off- post-front/pre-front fishing conditions greeted the anglers with light north winds and 52 - 56 degree water temps with 58 degree air temps with dropping lake level conditions of 1.6 ft below normal pool.

All bass recovered and live released by the SRA-LA fish recovery team with 886 bass weighing 2,232 lbs.
