5 fish / 19.08 lbs Wins Fishers of Men Kick-off Tournament
By Patty Schaefer

Fifty two teams showed up to fish the first Fishers of Men, East Texas Division today at Twin Dikes Marina on Lake Sam Rayburn. They battled the 15-20 mile per hour winds with 3-5' swells today which didn't daunt these fishermen as there were many limits caught today and lots of nice fish. Mostly cloudy skies and temps in the mid 60's made for a great day of fishing other than the workout they got with the high winds.

Traps seemed to be the bait of the day today as the line grew long with fishermen waiting for their turn on the scales. The weights climbed more and more as each teams weights were tallied.

1st Place & Big Bass - Mark Couch & Tommy Shelton brought in their limit today weighing in 19.08 lbs. They brought in Big Bass of the day with a 10.69 lb kicker. They caught about 15-16 fish all day and were culling by about 8:30am. They fished with crank baits and rattle traps in 5-10' of water and then carolina rigged watermelon centipedes in about 17' of water on drops and grass edges today to catch their fish.

2nd Place - David Atwell and Chris DelValle brought in a limit weighing in 18.75 lbs to take second place today. They stuck to the bushes today in about 5-6' of water using white craw & bleeding shiner traps on the north end of the lake. Their best bite came in the morning and they were culling by 10:00am. Chris claimed that David tried to hurt him today crashing through the waves, and David hooked himself adding to their challenge, but being the seasoned tournament fishermen that they are that just wasn't enough to stop them from taking second place. They caught 8-10 keepers today but never culled from their first five.

Ten places were paid in this tournament with prizes for first two out of the money. Three places for big bass were compensated with cash & prizes.
