Slow-Rolled Blades Nab

Anglers Choice Tournament Trails-East Texas Team Circuit-
Saturday, April 6, 2002, Frontier Park Marina, Lake Toledo Bend, TX.
Near purr-fect Spring-like weather merged with near purr-fect bass fishing
conditions for the 40 teamed anglers who probed Toledo Bend waters for
the right pattern that would put some winning "Anglers Choice"
bass-weight on the scales. And as the final flight checked in at Frontier
Park Marina with their sacks, a Shreveport LA, team managed to put the
winning weight on the leader-board by working a post-spawn bass pattern.
The 3rd East Texas Team tournament, of seven qualifying events, the Toledo
Bend tournament was a step closer for the East Texas Teams who hoped to
qualify for the Regional Championship to be held October 4-5 on Cedar
Creek Lake. The top 15 point & weight teams, plus 5 wildcard teams,
from the East Texas Circuit, will qualify to compete at the East Texas
1st Place Team -(5 bass/20-79)- "We just basically worked a run &
gun pattern, explained, Jeff Pate, as he told of how he and his partner,
Allen Ryland, ran their Blazer/Mercury bass-rig to mid-lake brush-patches
to work Shimano rods and reels spooled with 17 lb test Stren line. The
Shreveport LA, team slow-rolled ¾ oz white/chartreuse Cyclone and
LA Blade spinner-baits along 6' outside bushes to catch at least 25 keeper
bass from an all day bite. "I was basically the net man today, grinned
Jeff, as he spoke of netting most of his partners bass, which included
the 6.38 lb tournament big bass that hit on a 2:15 pm big bite.
2nd Place Team -( 5 bass/17-39)- Wayne Ebarb of Toledo Bend, and Dan Longmire
of Orange TX, put their Ranger/Mercury bass-rig over 1215 area buck-brush
to work Castaway & Fenwick rods and Ambassadeur reels spooled with
80 lb test Spider-Wire. The 2nd place team flipped black/blue Reaction
craws and lizards within 2' buck-brush patches to catch 15 bass from a
7am to 1pm bite, which included Wayne's 4.05 lb kicker caught on a 10am
3rd Place Team -( 5 bass/13-78)- Wesley Schubert of Willis TX, fished
by himself while running his Champion/Johnson bass-rig over mid-lake grass.
Wesley fished Falcon rods and Shimano reels spooled with 20 lb test low-viz
Stren line. Schubert worked bubble-gum/yellow Gambler floating worms along
bank-shallow grass to catch his bass, which included a 4.82 lb kicker
on a 2:15 pm big bite.
