Skeeter/Yamaha Bass-N-Bucks 2002 Team Tournament Trail
Sunday, May 05, 2002, Twin Dikes Marina, Lake Sam Rayburn, TX.
Over-casting skies and light south-east winds greeted the 166 teams who launched into the Bass-N-Bucks tournament on Lake Sam Rayburn today, which became the magic combination for one "heck-uva" weigh-in that would see six twenty pound sacks dominate the top the leader-board that marked 536 bass weighing in at over 1,300 lbs.
"This is our 5th of 7 team events for our 2002 team tournament season, informed Bass-N-Bucks CEO/Director, David Concienne, "as we've guaranteed paybacks of $42,000.00 in cash and prizes per each team event with a total payout of over $375,000 for the 2002 Bass-N-Bucks Team Tournament season, which culminates with our $85,000 Skeeter/Yamaha Team Championship at the end of the season.

1st place-(23.77)- Stan Burgay of Timpson, and lance Hughes of Center TX, ran their Ranger/Mercury bass-rig to north-lake grass-points to work Shimano rods and reels spooled with 50 lb test Power Pro-line. The 1st place team fished 11" Texas rigged Larew grape/red-flake worms along the edges of main-lake point-drops to catch an all day bite that put 30 bass in their cull, which included a 6.29 lb big noon-bite for Burgay.

2nd place-(2.91)- Brian Schott of Lufkin, and Marty Sowell of Nacogdoches TX, put their Ranger/Mercury bass-rig over south-lake to mid-lake grass to work bait-caster rods and Shimano reels spooled with 15 lb test Tri-lene. The 2nd place team concentrated on fishing 8'-to-11' inside grass-lines to catch an early to noon bite for a 10 bass catch to cull their weight from.

3rd place-(21.40)- Shelby Shaw of Kirbeyville, and Rusty Clark of Evadale TX, put their Skeeter/Yamaha bass-rig over mid-lake grass to fish Castaway rods and Shimano reels spooled with 15 lb test Berkley Big Game mono. The 3rd place team worked watermelon/red Zoom trick-worms over inside grass-lines in 12' of water to catch 25 bass to cull their weight from, which included a 7.21 big bite for Shelby at 9:30 am.

Overall Big Bass-(8.50)- Jerry Zimmerman and Gary Robin of Beaumont TX, ran their Champion/Yamaha bass-rig to Veach Basin moss to work Sonnier Custom rods and Shimano reels spooled with 17 lb test Triple-Fish. Jerry was working a 7' moss-patch when the 8.50 lb big bass hit on an 11:30 am big bite, which gave him the big bass honor worth $1,000.
