5 Bass/21.13 Lbs Wins Jasper Chamber Tourney

2nd Annual Jasper TX Chamber of Commerce Benefit Team Bass Tournament
Saturday, May 04, 2002, Hwy-255 Public Boat Ramp, Lake Sam Rayburn, TX.

"We fished pretty hard today, stated the Kirbeyville TX, bass-team that had just weighed-in a "hefty" 5 bass/21.13 lb stringer, and we must have culled at least 20 bass from our days catch to reach that winning weight. The Kirbeyville team were among 37 other bass-teams that signed up to fish the Jasper Chamber of Commerce benefit event.

1st place-(21.13)- Jimmy Grant and Richard Reeves of Kirbeyville TX, put their Champion/Mercury bass-rig to Needmore Point grass-flats to work Allstar rods and Abu-Garcia reels spooled with 17 lb test Stren line. The winning team fished watermelon Zoom "wave-worms" and watermelon/candy centipedes over 12'-14' grass to catch their bass, which included a 6.89 big-bite at 1pm.

2nd place-(16.63)- Rusty Harvey of Nederland TX, ran his Broadhead/Mercury bass-rig to mid-lake grass to fish Castaway rods and Shimano reels spooled with 15 lb test Berkley Big Game mono. The 2nd place team worked Carolina rigged pumpkin centipedes to catch 9 bass to cull their 16.63 lb weight from.

3rd place-(15.73)- Butch Hollis and Butch Dean of Jasper TX, put their Ranger/Mercury bass-rig into mid-lake grass-pockets to work Castaway rods and Shimano reels spooled with 15 lb test Berkley Big Game mono. The 3rd place team fished 4'-6' pockets to catch their weight, which included a 6.22 big-bite at 9:30 am.

Overall big bass-(8.48)- Charles Miles and Danny Massey of Jasper TX, ran their Ranger/Johnson bass-rig to Needmore Point area grass to fish Allstar/Berkley rods and Garcia Ambassadeur reels spooled with 15 lb test Berkley Big Game mono. Charles was working a Texas rigged tequila sunrise Curley Tailed worm when the 8.48 big-bass hit on a 6:30 am big-bite.
