The Southeast Region of Honey Hole Family Tournaments held its fifth of six qualifying events at Mill Creek Park on Lake Sam Rayburn June 23, 2002. Twenty four teams participated in the event and the fishing was good with many limits eagerly brought to the scales. The skies were overcast with a nice breeze making for a great bite that included some topwater action.

1st place honors with 20.47 lbs went to Steve and Velda Molitor. They tied 3/4 oz brown jigs with green Gene Larew craw trailers to their Falcon/Quantum/30# Pro Line combo's and fished the 8-10' grassy points near Needmore point. They had an exciting day, while Velda was netting hubby's big bass of the day his line went behind her ear and took the back off of her earing. Luckily, the diamond stud stayed in place and the bass got safely to the boat. Steve reported missing a very nice bass, it having jumped twice before throwing his lure back at him.

In 2nd place with a five fish limit weighing 18.74 lbs is Donnie & Juanita Robinson. They concentrated in 8' grassy depths at the edge of a main lake creek. Catching a total of three limits they began their cull by 8:30 am. They flipped a 1 oz. watermelon jig with a craw trailer and also used a Zara Spook for their catch today with their American Rodsmith / Pentacle / 80# Linch Line combo's. Juanita took Ladies' Big Bass honor with their 4.64 lb kicker.

3rd place went to Rusty & Karen Lewis weighing in at 13.15 lbs. They took their bass rig to the Buck Bay area to fish 8' main lake grassy points and coves and found their bite on watermelon tube jigs with red & green glitter. They only had two keepers in the boat until about 1:00, and with a 2:00 weigh in caught their last two just under the wire which included the 6.35 lb Men's Big Bass.
