Honey Hole Family Tournament - Toledo Bend
By Patty Schaefer

Cypress Bend Resort - Many, LA

Honey Hole Family Tournament events wrapped up their tournament season on Toledo Bend July 28, 2002. The teams varied from husbands & wives, dads & sons to friends. A warm bunch of anglers cheering for each other, it is a family event indeed. Michael & Julie Voytek, Tournament Organizers & Directors for the Southeast Region, put on a wholesome family tournament and it has been a great season. With the "dog days" of summer at hand, the anglers were glad to have the almost constant breeze for a little relief from the muggy Texas heat as they competed for their place in the upcoming championship.

1st Place - 14.07 lbs - Wayne Ebarb & Amy McLendon, both of Many, LA brought in their limit from the mid lake area. Their catch came by cranking mud bugs and DD-22's off of 12-14' ridges. Their best bite came between 9:00 - 1:00 and their big bite came at 10:00. Their 4.76 lb kicker took men's big bass honors.

2nd Place - 9.63 lbs - Dan & Twila Longmire weighed in a limit and said black/blue Senko's were working for them. Fishing a weightless rig in the mid lake area, they concentrated on banks, docks and lily pads. They began their cull at 12:30 and reported a slow bite.

3rd Place - 7.54 lbs - Craig & Elizabeth Marsh said that they had a great practice day, but coming into the tournament their fish locked up on them. They caught their bass on watermelon red as well as black/blue Senko's in 8'-12' south lake creeks. Their best bite came at daylight.

4th Place - 6.90 lbs - Richard & Mariana Carpenter

Jr. Big Bass - 4.08 lbs - Justin Skyvara, 13 year old from Cold Springs, TX fishing with dad Steve today won his honors fishing with a carolina rigged camo tube jig. Concentrating in 16' grassy creeks, his big bite came just before weigh in at 1:30. This is Justin's 3rd year fishing with Honey Hole Family with his dad.

Ladies Big Bass - 3.72 lbs - Mariana Carpenter

Congratulations to Anglers of the Year Jeff & Jennifer Vavra of Onalaska, TX
