Tournament Pathfinder
by John Presley

One of my favorite times of the year is the fall for bass fishing. During this time of the year many different types of lures will catch fish. This month the water temperature on Sam Rayburn will soon start cooling down do to the shorter days and cooler temperatures. One of the best places to be on Rayburn is in the tributary creeks. In the fall bait fish begin migrating into the creeks to feed on plankton that wash into the creek. Soon to follow are the bass to feed on those bait fish and with the water cooler, the bass are more active. Look for creeks where the channel swings right next to the bank in different places. These places seem to hold a lot more fish. In early fall, work the mouth of the creeks and always look for bait fish. Later in the fall, I motor slowly too the back of the creeks looking at my Lowrance 480 watching for bait fish or any surface activity. You should always work the creek very carefully try different lures and work all different depths . When exploring these creeks one of the best fish locating baits is a buzz bait. I like to use the Falcon buzz bait either in black or white. Remember, this is the time of the year bass will usually chase your lure. When you are still trying to locate them use a fast moving lure such as a buzz bait , spinner bait or crankbait. Once you find them fish your wacky worms, stick baits, topwaters, worms or any of your favorite lures.
