The 6th Annual East Texas Deerfest will be held on Dec 10! Deerfest was postponed due to the Hurricane Rita but Sabine County is now welcoming hunters and visitors to our area. The fun begins at 9 a.m. at this year's Deerfest. The whole family will find various things to do and see at this year's event. Activities include: Skeet/Trap Shoot Tournament, BB Gun Competition, Poster Contest from Sabine County Schools, children's activity area, vendors, live entertainment, demonstrations, door prizes and of course the best raffle in Deep East Texas. Raffle items include a Kawasaki 600 Mule (Sponsored by First Bank and Trust and Temple Inland), 18 guns and 2 bows, deer feeder and many other great prizes Deerfest has become known for in the past 5 years. A-Real Estate Connection is sponsoring the children's prize again this year. Children between the ages of 6-12 can register to win the 90cc Mongoose with their paid admission (sponsored by A-Real Estate Connection). Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children 6-12 years old and children under 6 are admitted free. Raffle tickets are available at the Chamber office and many businesses in the Toledo Bend area. This year will bring many more exciting events for the children. Get Hooked on Fishing will be in the livestock barn and have games and fun activities for the children. The Sabine County Landholders/Leaseholders in conjunction with Deerfest will hold a special program for children under 16 years of age at the VFW hall (next door to the arena). This program was a great success last year and we welcome the Landowners/Leaseholder back to our event. Deerfest attendance has increase each year with last year showing over 3,000 people who enjoy this day of family fun. Vendor reservations are being accepted. Hammock Furniture and Appliance is having their Customer Appreciation Prize Giveaway. A winner will be selected each day and will be announced the next day on KTHP 103.9 FM between 7-7:30 a.m. through Dec 23. Prizes are on display. Register for all the great gifts Hammocks will be giving away during their Customer Appreciation Days. KTHP will be live at Hammocks from 1:30-2:30 Nov. 23.
New Sabine County Postcards are here! They are full color with a picture of Pineland's train depot, the Gaines-Oliphint house, the Old Jail and a view of Toledo Bend on the front. We are very proud to have these souvenirs available for our guests and citizens. You can find the post cards at the Chamber, The Clothes Horse and J.R Huffman Public Library for fifty-cents each.
The Annual Lion's Club Christmas Parade will begin on Sat Dec 3 at the Chamber Parking lot on Hwy 87 N in Hemphill at 4 p.m. The theme for this years' parade is "Christmas in the Pines". Santa will make his first appearance in Sabine County in the parade and will listen to children's Christmas wishes at the courthouse after the parade. Also, this year one lucky boy and girl will walk away with a brand new bicycle. These bicycles are being donated by NorthStar EMS. The winners must be present to win. Vendors will be located around the square with sausage on a stick, cookies, hot chocolate and more. There will music and caroling provided by Hemphill ISD students and the lighting of the square will take place around dusk. Make sure you attend the parade and the festivities on the Courthouse square. Parade entry forms are available at the Chamber office. Call 409-787-2732 for more information.
The Chamber has several DVD's available which will benefit area non-profit organizations. "Tragedy in Our Own Back Yard" and "Remembering Columbia 2005" are about the Columbia disaster and a donation of $20 is requested for each DVD. Other DVD's available are the "Gaines-Oliphint House 1st Annual Pioneer Day", "Civil War Reenactment at the Pratt House", "The Fifth Annual Deerfest", "2005 Hemphill Lion's Club Talent Show", "And the Winners Are" and "Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison-El Camino Real Memories". A donation of $10 is requested for each DVD.
The Hemphill Lions Club has recently purchased a complete sound system and are offering to rent it to other organizations. This system has everything you need for events. The rental fee is $50 per day or $100 per weekend. Contact the Chamber for rental information. Call 409-787-2732 for more information.
Stop by and view the models of the proposed memorial for the space shuttle Columbia at the Chamber office. The models can be seen from 8-5 Monday-Friday.
The Chamber has started a recycling program. Bring your used printer and fax cartridges to the Chamber office. We will box them up and send them to be recycled. This is a great way to help keep our environment clean. Please don't trash your cartridges! Drop them in the collection box at the Chamber office.
Hemphill Garden Club has a supply of fresh nuts for your holiday cooking. Shelled nuts (almonds, cashews pecans and walnuts) will be on sale for $7 per pound. Nuts can be purchased at Antique Connection, the Chamber office and from any Garden Club member. Call 409-787-2102 for more information.
The V.F.W. Post 10351 located on Hwy 184 (just 2 miles outside Hemphill City Limits) is holding Bingo on Thursdays. Early bird starts at 5:30 p.m. The grill is open and has great hamburgers and hot dogs etc ready for bingo players. The V.F.W. Sabine County Cotton Throws, Prints of the Pratt House suitable for framing and Pratt House T-Shirts are on sale at Pace Creek Enterprises, Sabine County Chamber of Commerce and the Sabine County Reporter. The J.R. Huffman Public Library will be holding their "Highway Hold-Up" at the flashing light in Hemphill on Dec 10. Please make sure to make a donation. Funds raised will help with operational expenses of the library. Your donations are tax deductible. Call 409-787-4829 for more information.
An information box has been placed outside the front door of the Chamber Building. Maps, area attractions and information about our county are available for our guest to pick up when we are out of our office.

If you are not a member of the Sabine County Chamber of Commerce, we would like to invite you to become a member. The Chamber works together with business owners and citizens to support the continuing development and the long-term advancement of our area. Annual memberships are: $50 for business memberships, $15 for a non-profit organization membership and $15 for an individual or citizen membership.
