Jasper angler, Ricky Heard captures MBAA on Toledo
by JAMES SHUMAKE

Ricky Heard of Jasper took first place honors in Bassin America's MBAA trail on Toledo Bend Dec. 6th. Ricky battled the wind for most of the day while pitching a jig with a Zoom Magnum Road Kill to pick up 12.96 pounds. He also took first in the Big Bass pot with a 4.92 lunker. Ricky said " I had to tie up to a tree to hold the boat in place and while I was tied up is when I caught my biggest fish." Ricky fished the south end in grass 8-12 feet deep. He had more success when the grass met or joined the timber lines in that depth.

Second place honors went to Benny Jarrell of Leesville, La. with 11.98 pounds and he was followed by Jerry Hilton with 9.98 pounds.

Tournament Director Rodney Howard was pleased with the turnout, "We had 20 teams which is about our average." He thanked his sponsors for helping with the tournament, as many door prizes concluded the afternoon. The tournament continues to grow in popularity. This is Ricky Heard's first year on the trail and with his victory he earns 200 points toward qualifying for the national championship which will be announced later.

If you are interested in a trail for individuals that guarantees that you get to use your boat if you bring it, and allows non boaters to be able to fish as well then give Rodney a call at 1-318-531-1501. Their next tournament is on Sam Rayburn Jan. 17th and will be launching out of Mill Creek Park.
