Austin Team Wins 33rd Annual Texas Bass Tourny For The Deaf
Ed Snyder/Lakecaster

Texas Bass Club For The Deaf "33rd Annual State Bass Tournament".
Sunday, April 11, 1999, Alpine Marina, Toledo Bend Lake, TX.

"These people are some of the nicest you'd ever want to meet, smiled Betty Vizina, owner/operator of Alpine Marina, "They've been with us now for most of the week and we're just plain going to miss them when they go back home today, Betty informed, "further stating that Alpine Marina's "welcome mat" was out for whenever they wanted to come back.

Slightly better wind conditions greeted the T.B.C.D. anglers as they launched into their final day of tournament operations on Lake Toledo Bend, and with the weigh-in hours being cut from the previous days 4:pm, those anglers who had taken advantaged of the late bite would have to find some earlier action as final day competition was scheduled to be deadlined by 12:N00N. And as the hearing impaired anglers arrived to weigh-in their hard fished catches, it became obvious that the "ripple-front" which had passed through during the overnight hours had a strong effect on the bass bite, but the trade-out of having 25 mph windgusts "be-calmed" with light north winds didn't cause "too" many complaints.

"We used white/black Smithwicks and carolina rigged watermelon/chartreuce worms, signed Ronnie Taylor and Henry Harvard of Austin TX, as they informed of how they fished 12' Palo Guacho river-channel edges to catch their winning weight for taking first place. "We, Taylor further signed, "managed to catch at least 15 bass for culling our keepers from. Henry Harvard would also catch the "over-all" big bass of the tournament as he nailed a 4.35 lb "kicker" on a 9:30 a:m: bite.

"Texas rigged Zoom watermelon-seed lizards dipped in garlic, signed J.B. Thomas of West Monroe LA, and Pat Stuckey of Beaumont TX, as they explained how they caught their 2nd place finish by fishing 5"-12' Palo Gaucho moss-edges near the 3121 bridge. "We managed to catch an all day bite for 9 bass, Stuckey further signed as he informed of how their day of fishing had been.
