Volunteers of America visit Wildwood Resort
By Noe Garcia

Sponsored by the Volunteer's of America group out of Alexandria, LA, fifteen "special needs" children were given an opportunity for spending some quality time on Lake Toledo Bend, while visiting Wildwood Resort for some "fun in the sun" activities which involved fishing, party barge rides, hamburger & hotdog cookouts, and just plain "fun".

The "Respite" program of the Volunteer's of America Group, provides these activities which are mainly geared towards giving the parents of these special needs children, a break from the constant care which is needed. The program provides two Saturdays a month for supervised activities which are formated for the ratio of children which are to be involved in the program. (One program specialist per three children) Many thanks goes out to the volunteer's, as well as "hotdog chefs" Dallas and Kathy Breaux and helpers, Vernon and Shirley Rabalais, and a very special thanks goes out to Wildwood Resort and its Management team, which provided the food, barge, baits, and a discount on the cabins for the Volunteer group.

The kids had a lot of fun catching crappie and bream, as well as enjoying the many pleasures that "only" the Great Outdoors" can provide.
