East Texas Get Hooked On Fishing "Not Drugs" Crusade
Saturday, Shirley Creek Marina, The energy of this special day helped to enhance the urgency of its importance as a purr-fect Spring morning awoke to the warmth of a rising sun, and the excited anticipations of over 600 children as they arrived to participate in the 13th Annual East Texas Get Hooked On Fishing "Not Drugs" Crusade being held on the scenic shores of Shirley Creek Marina.

This was the "Fishing Friends and Family day" phase of the crusade which would involve children from the three lake area school districts of Etoile, Cherino, and Central, as they were split into two groups. The first group would grab fishin' poles, bait, and chaperons as they headed for some shoreline fishing, while the second group would to spend time within the seminar area where they were treated to anti-drug & alcohol seminars, casting clinics and contests, informational programs, puppet shows, and autograph/photograph opportunities with the many local and national celebrities who were attending this years event, which included Miss Hooked on Fishing, "Not Drugs" of Texas-Kristin Little, Miss Teen East Texas-Ashely Doughtie, Miss Lufkin-Georgia Locke, Miss Teen Lufkin-Amy Renee Lenderman, Miss Piney Woods-Sunni Cranfill, Miss Teen Piney Woods-Hollie Hines, Miss Angelina County-Scarlett Hinke, Miss Teen Angelina County-Armanda Roland, Miss Nacogdoches-Paige Patillo, Miss Teen Nacogdoches-Agatha Bielicki, NFL Hall Of Famer-Kenny Houston, Major League Baseball Player/Scout-Red Murff, National BassMaster Pro and ESPN TV fishing show host-Lonnie Stanley of Stanley Jigs Inc., National Woman's Bass Fishing Pro and World WBFA Champion-Sherrie Brubaker, National BassMaster Pro-John Hale, and National Woman's Bass Fishing Pro and WBFA Champion-Janice Cheek.
