Bass -N- Bucks East Texas Team Circuit
Sunday, August 8, 1999, Twin Dikes Marina, Lake Sam Rayburn, TX.

"My gosh, that bass was so big that it could'nt even get its body out of the water when it jumped, stammered the mornful angler who was explaining his loss, "That fish was probably the largest bass that I've ever had on my rod, informed Tommy McQuire, "probably about 12 lbs or better! "yep, sure nuff at least 12 lbs, agreed Tommy's team partner, Steve Arnold, as he further noted that they were sitting in 5' of water and casting to 8' when he witnessed monster bass hit then throw the hook when it kinda' wallowed up for a jump. "Man, gritted Steve, "I can still see that hook coming out, "just like in slow motion!" The fishing duo were fishing in Veach Basin when they suffered the loss of such a huge bass,.. "but, even as they were telling of their misfortune, two other teams were lining up behind them to weigh their limits that would digitize over the 20 lb mark.

Typically "HOT" Summery weather greeted the 238 teamed anglers who signed up to fish the final East Texas Team event of the Bass-N-Bucks Tournament Circuit. Todays event would finalize the list of anglers who would qualify to fish the 1999 Bass-N-Bucks Championship, to be held at Lake Sam Rayburn on September 23-26. And along with the "guaranteed" cash-payout of $4,000 for the team anglers who would finish in the 1st place slot, the competitive level for this final 1999 event of the Bass-N-Bucks circuit was expected to be as high as the "triple-digit" heat-index that was predicted for the 3:pm weigh-in at Twin Dikes Marina.

"We only had 4 bass in the well by 3:pm, answered the team which had just weighed-in a 5 bass/20.89 lb sack, "then, the our 5th bass hit my carolina rigged 6" watermelon Zoom worm, stated Dean Woods, as he told of catching a 7.76 lb "kicker" just before they had to head in for weigh-in. "BassCat/Mariner "tuff" helped to get us there informed Ramon Raines, explaining that they worked Allstar rods and Shimano reels spooled with Berkely BG-15# mono as they fished southlake patchy grass-clumps in 10'-12' water to catch their stringer. The Beaumont TX, "Classic Tin" fishing team managed to nab a $4,000 1st place check for their 5 bass/20.89 lb catch, as well as another $1,070 check for their 7.76 lb "overall".

"We probably caught 40, or more, keeper bass today, stated Dicky Newberry, as he, and team partner, John Gunnels, ran their Skeeter/Yamaha bass-rig to southlake 10'-14' flats. "We worked Castaway rods and Shimano reels spooled with Berkely BG-20# mono today, Dicky informed as he told of fishing carolina rigged Riverside watermelon worms and lizards along grass-clump edges for a 7:30am to 3:pm bite. The Houston TX, "Boots Folmar Marine" team put 5 bass/20.18 lbs on the scale for a $1,800 2nd place check.
