Father Son Team captures Texas Fishers of Men State Championship

Len Fairbanks and son Carson weighed in a five bass limit of 14.20 pounds to slip by Walt Roberts and Sandy Daniel Jr. to capture the State Championship for the Texas Divison of The Fishers of Men Trail on lake Sam Rayburn Saturday.

Len and Carson now qualify for the National Fishers of Men tournament which will be held on Old Hickory in Tennessee in October. Carson who has been know to whip up on his dad in previous tournaments was asked how it went, and the 13 year old replyed that " Awh He caught all of those fish today." His excitement of being named state Champions made it ok that he had zeroed for this day.

Roberts and Daniel followed closely at second to take the Anglers of the Year honors for the Texas Division. They weighed in a 13.51 pound stringer. Their second place finish assured them that they would not be caught as the leading points team for the year for the five tournament circuit.

They managed to gather in a total of 1024 points for the year to finish ahead of a second place tie as runner-ups between George Jeane and George Williams with 1012 points and Steve Nelson and Randy Sones also with 1012 points.

The state Championship led to the qualifications of 15 teams from the division for the Nationals on Old Hickory. Ten qualifiers were from point accumulations for the year and the four top finisers for the day were included with one additional team as a wild card for fising all five
divisional tournaments.

The fifteen teams were as follows:
1. Walt Roberts and Sandy Daniel Jr. 1024 points.....$590.00 for Anglers of the Year
$459.00 for second place in State Championship

Jeff Buchanan offered some tips and "secret spots" for the competitors in a pros pointers section and the group received a special treat with the singing of Amy Shumake.

The Fishers of Men Trail is dedicated to the Glory of God and this year has been very special with three men coming to accept the Lord jesus as Savior and many many committments to the Lord from tournament anglers.
