Anglers Choice East Texas Amateur Team Series
Saturday, August 21, 1999, Twin Dikes Marina, Lake Sam Rayburn, TX.

"Well, I really don't want to be tellin' what I caught her on, whispered the Bryan TX, angler who'd just weighed-in an 8.28 "kicker", "cause I'm fishing here again tomorrow and don't want anyone t' know that the bass are on this pattern......"But,....on second thought,...seeing that you're going to put this on that "fishingworld.com" internet-page, re-whispered the secretive angler, "I managed to catch it at 7:30 a:m while slow-rolling a 1oz gold/white Strike King Spinnerbait around a Powell Park grass-patch.

As this was to be the last tournament event of the season for the Anglers Choice East Texas Team circuit, 60 teams signed-up to compete as they launched into Lake Sam Rayburn to catch a final chance to qualify for the Amateur Team Championship, to be held September 17-19 at Twin Dikes Marina on Lake Sam Rayburn. Gripped within the Dog Days of August, Rayburn's bass patterns would be difficult for some, but better for others, and as the weigh-in deadline neared the 3:pm collective moments, those anglers who faired well with better catches would find their names etched at the top of the leaderboard standings.

"Carolina rigged Zoom green/pumpkin finesse worms, stated Billy Eddins and Dick Letney of Bryan TX, as they explained how they ran their Fisher/Mercury bass-rig to southlake grass-points. "We used Allstar/Shimano rods and Shimano/Ambassadeur reels spooled with Big Game 15# mono, explained the Capt. Kirk's Marine team who had just weighed-in a 5 bass/17.42 lb catch for 1st place. The winning duo were fishing 10'-12' outside grass for catching a 11:15 a:m limit for an 2:pm early weigh-in check of $900 as well as a 2nd Big Bass check of $180 for Billy's 7.58 lb "kicker". (We didn't want to take a chance on losing our big bass to the heat so we came in early, stated the first place team)....."Applauds"....

"Champion/Mercury helped to get us there, stated the Lufkin TX, Dusty Rhoads Marine crew, who had just taken the 2nd place slot with a 5 bass/16.82 lb weight. "We used Allstar/Castaway rods and Shimano reels spooled with Big Game 12# to 20# mono, answered Mike Curry of Baytown TX, and Henry Parsons of Bryan TX, as they further explained that they fished carolina rigged blue/fleck Power Worms while working 10'-12' Caney Creek grasspoints. "We had our limit by 7:45 a:m, stated the duo who had just collected a 2nd place check for $700.

"Richard Neal and I were fishing the Powell Park area, answered Marvin Konecny of Bryan TX, "when, while slow rolling a white 1 oz Strike King spinnerbait with gold blades along 9'-10' scattered grass-clumps, my 8.28 lb "kicker" bass hit at 7:30 a:m. "My partner from Caldwell Tx, managed to land it for me, stated the secretive angler as he collected the "overall" big bass check for $300 as well as a 5 bass/15.04 lb 3rd place check for $510.
