Arkansas Team Wins Bassin' Her Style Championship
By Ed Snyder

Anglers Choice "Bassin' Her Style" Women's Team Championship
October 30/31, 1999, Twin Dikes Marina, Lake Sam Rayburn, TX.

"We changed up our pattern a little bit today, stated the lady anglers who had just claimed the "1st" Championship title for the Bassin' Her Style circuit, "we fished as far as we could back in the creeks today, they informed, telling of how they kept working their way in from where the creek formed a point, to as far back as they could go before being bogged down in the grass. The Arkansas team, well known National Pro/Basser's from the Bass n' Gal years, managed to anchor their prestigious win from a solid 10 bass/22.24 lb finish, giving them just under a two lb lead for their Championship win.

"We started this tournament tour for the interest of the women bass angler who wanted to be able to fish a competitive bass circuit on the weekends, stated BHS director, Connie Bales, explaining that it was put together as a team format which allows the girls to team up with their "fishin' buddies" for safety & comfort reasons. "Next year, Connie informed, "our circuit will become a friday/saturday tournament circuit which will hold competitive events on Lake Toledo Bend TX, Cross Lake LA, Lake Ouachita AR, Lake TenKiller OK, and Lake Sam Rayburn TX, with our yr/2000 championship being held on Lake Dardanelle AR.

Championship ReCap;
(Day-1)- Dangerous lightening, drenching rains, gusting winds, and "water spouts" from a fast moving cold front, compounded with opening day duck hunters shooting at flying targets, provided the girls with a "bad hair day"as they tried to wrestle up 5 bass limits for their first day weigh-in. "But, despite all of these "minor problems" the women bass tournament teams, who had qualified to fish this Championship event, managed to tabulate a good first day effort, giving the Arkansas team of Joan Craig and Kathleen Stewart the 1st place leading edge for their 5 bass/12.05 lb catch. The 2nd place leading effort went to La/Pro Sherrie Brubaker and OK/Pro Sherri Glasco for their 5 bass/9.73 lbs weigh-in, giving the 3rd the place leading mark to TX/Pro, Lynette Branch, and LA/Pro, Jennifer Lesperance, for their 5 bass/9.42 lb catch, which included the "overall" big bass of the day for Lynette's 3.61 lb "kicker".

(Day-2)- "BLUE-BIRD" weather conditions greeted the final day anglers as light north winds and high pressure barometrics re-conditioned the bass-i-tudes, giving those who were on "tight" patterns the advantage for producing the "braggin' rights" for todays Championship finish.

1st-(10 bass-22.24 lbs)-Joan Craig-Russelville, AR/Katherine Stewart-Conway, AR- fished from the deck of a BassCat/Mariner while working Quantum/Berkely rods and Quantum reels spooled with 12# to 14# Trilene mono. "We fished Millers Woods on the 1st day, they explained, telling of working chartreuce/white Pop-R's and shad colored Swimmin' Image crankbaits, for catching an all day bite of 30 to 35 bass for culling their 5 bass/12.05 1st day weight. "We then went to the Little Creek area today for our early bite on carolina rigged Zoom tequila sunrise and green/glitter worms where we managed to catch 12 bass by 10:am, "where we then went back to Millers and started grass-tippin 4'-6' grass-edges, on a long point, with the worms and Swimmin' Image cranks. "If it hadn't been for our Exide Batteries, stated Joan Craig, we probably wouldn't have had the extra power to stay with what we were doing. The Arkansas team managed to catch a 5 bass/10.19 lb 2nd day weight for a final tally of 10 bass/22.24 lbs to claim their "braggin' rights" for the 1999 Bassin' Her Style Championship.

2nd-(10 bass/20.48 lbs)-Jan Jones-N. Little Rock, AR/Rhonda Usery-Sherwood, AR - fished from the deck of their BassCat/Mercury while working Castaway/Shimano rods and Shimano reels spooled with Triple-Fish line. "We fished carolina rigs with watermelon/redflake Zoom centipedes using 16# line, with 10# leaders, they stated, further informing that they fished mostly Kudzu colors on saturday as they dragged the rocks at the Dam area to catch an early and late bite with 3 limits for culling their 9.24 lb 4th place weight. "But, they continued to tell, we fished green/redflake worms today to catching 5 limits for culling our 5 bass/11.24 lb final, which gave us a 10 bass/20.48 lb 2nd place finish.

3rd-(10 bass/19.77 lbs)-Sherri Glasco-Muskogee, OK/Sherrie Brubaker-Westlake, LA- Fished from the deck of their Champion/Mercury while working Allstar/Browning rods and Shimano reels spooled with 14# Stren. "We fished mainlake point ledges and wood yesterday, they announced, adding that they worked the Sandy Creek area with carolina rigged watermelon Larew centipedes, watermelon Zoom finesse worms, and 1/2 oz to 1oz chartreuce/white Hart spinner baits, for catching 5 keepers for their 1st day weight of 5 bass/9.73 lbs, "then, they further informed, "we fished Ayish Bayou today as we worked the same baits off of 10' to 18' drops for catching 35 to 40 bass that culled to our final weight of 5 bass/10.04 lbs, for our final 3rd place tally of 10 bass/19.77 lbs.

"Overall" Tournament Big Bass-(4.26 lbs)-Cynthia Farrel-Ft Smith, AR/Chione Jackson-Many, LA-"I caught that bass at 7:30 am this morning, answered Cynthia Farrel, as she explained of how she was fishing a Powell Park cove area with a Shimano rod & reel spooled with 16# Trilene mono, rigged with a shad colored Chug-Bug, when the 4.26 lb bass hit while working it over a 10' gut. "My partner, Chione Jackson, managed to net the big bass for me.
