1998 LAKE AREA'S CHRISTMAS EVENTS LISTING - By Ed Snyder/Lakecaster

"A Santa Bass Christmas"

"Twas the dawn before christmas,
when all through the grass,
not a crappie was stirring,
not even a bass.
"The bream were all nesting,
all snug on their beds,
while visions of crickets,
pranced over their heads.
"When out on the lake,
there came such a splash,
they sprang from their beds,
and swam in a flash,
to see what had happened,
at the edge of the grass.
"When what did appear,
in front of their eyes,
but a long shiny Ranger,
with Santa inside.
"With quick easy casts,
he shouted with glee,
on Rascal, on Culprit, on Twister and Gitzit,
on Cyclone, on Strike King, on Stanley and Blitzit,
Castaway, splashaway, catchaway all.
"When then in a splutter,
with splashing so high,
a lake record lunker,
leaped up to the sky.
"With a flip and a splush,
almost breaking the line,
the monster ran deep,
going into the brush.
"But with a heave and a Ho,
on his trusty Shimano,
Ol' Santa did shine,
at the site of his catch,
as a bass of a lifetime, swam into his net.
"His eyes, how they twinkled, with cheeks all aglow,
Ol' Santa then tickled the bass on its nose,
and released it to play on Christmas, another day.
"As he strapped down his gear, and prepared go,
with great joy in his voice, he was heard to say,
"Oh how fantastic, to fish in this way,
But its the end of my season, and I cannot stay,
As I'm off to the Classic, for this must be my day.
