Newton County is located in the Big Thicket of Deep East
Texas. Normal rainfall is among the highest in Texas. The county is heavily
forested with the Sabine River on the east and Toledo Bend Reservoir on
the north. Over 220 species of birds call Newton County home at some time
during the year. The main birding times are spring migration through early
smmer and in the winter.
