Telling "The Shelby County Story"
Located in the center of Shelby County, deep
in the rolling hills of East Texas' pineywoods,
the Shelby County Museum and Shelby County
Historical Society are celebrating over 36
years of preserving the past.
The Museum is located in the historic 1910
Weaver-Gates House, which was built by E.H.
Barren. You'll find yourself taking an educational
journey through American Indian life, early
Spanish and European explorations and the
episodes thereafter that forever shaped the
landscape of Texas and Shelby County.
Visitors will stroll through the museum's
interpretation of Shelby County's past. You'll
find photographs, letters, furniture, quilts
and textiles, Civil War, WWI and WWII memorabilia
along with a complete Genealogy Research
Library and staff to assist.
