By contacting the SRA: Sabine River Authority of Louisiana 15901 Texas Highway Many, La 71449-5718 Telephone (318) 256-4112 Toll Free (800) 259-LAKE (259-5253) Fax (318) 256-4179 email: srala@toledo-bend.com
Contact Person is Harold Temple, Shoreline Manager, at SRA - LA (don't know about Texas side). Generally, he works Monday - Thursday from 7:00 AM -5:00 PM and is not available on Fridays. He's in and out of his office for inspections, etc. It is best to call ahead and make arrangements to meet with him.
There is a fee of $35 payable at time of application.
You will need either a legal description of your property or the name of your subdivision and lot number(s).
You will need a drawing of the shoreline and property lines showing the proposed placement and dimensions of the structure. (Suggestion: Get a plat from the Courthouse and use it; SRA may have the plat / drawings for your property at their office - but don't count on it, or figure on extra time while they find it - they will help in the process as much as possible).
You will need a copy of your deed including leaseback assignment. Make a copy you can leave with them.
Once you get a permit, it is good for 18 months - by which time the structure must be completed and inspected.
You will need a drawing of the proposed structure showing approximately what it will look like and approximate dimensions. This does not have to be a "professional" drawing, but something that conveys a reasonable idea of what you plan to build.
After the structure is completed, it will be inspected and (assuming it passes) you will get a "license plate" that is to be affixed in a visible place on the water side - this has your permit number on it.
You will not be able to build anything that, effectively, is habitable. You will not be able to build something that blocks a boat lane to other property - boats must be able to pass by so other property owners may also enjoy their leaseback rights.
