RE: Improving Cellular Telephone Communications
I am a resident of the Toledo Bend Lake area and experience extreme difficulty using my cellular phone in the lake area. My family and friends experience the same difficulty in attempting to obtain service. Service is very inconsistent with large “dead zone areas” where it is impossible to obtain service. Along La. Hwy. 191 it is sometimes necessary to drive 10- to 15-miles before even minimal service is available. Along La. Hwy. 6 service is also very ragged having many dead zones between the lake and the Town of Many.
Not only is the lack of service a severe inconvenience in an emergency, but it is also an impediment to the expansion of the local economy. Toledo Bend Lake is one of the outstanding Bass fishing lakes in the country, drawing fishers (men and women) from through the U.S. It is also the home of many national professional and amateur bass tournaments, ie. (The Bassmasters Invitational, which is televised on ESPN).
The lake area is also home to three mid-sized convention and recreation centers. (Cypress Bend Convention Center and Golf Course, Wildwood Resort and Convention Center and Emerald Hills Convention and Golf Course.) These facilities bring thousands of conventioneers and golfers to the area. All of these people require dependable Cellular phone service while in the area. Lack of service is a severe detriment to the local economy. Few people wish to frequent a location where they are out of contact with their office or home.
We, the residents and visitors request that you give serious and studied consideration to improving cellular communications to The Toledo Bend Lake and Sabine Parish area in Southwest Louisiana.
