I would like to know what can be done about lakefront property owners who harass fishermen who fish along their shore, I have had people tell me that I cannot fish their banks because it is their property and the water out so far is theirs. I thought Toledo Bend was a public waterbody and I could fish anywhere I want to, please let me know if I am wrong?
Answer: An excerpt from September Open Meeting Jim Simon introduced the three guest speakers: Jim Pratt, Exec. Dir. SRA-LA ; Joe Dewil, Enforcement Agent, La. Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries and Guffey Pattison, Sheriff of Sabine Parish. He also acknowledged Mr. Arbuckle, Chairman of the SRA-LA Board, in the audience. After the meal each of the three speakers were introduced by Jim Simon. They each commented on the recent disputes of ownership and possession of “fishing brush piles” built and located in Toledo Bend Lake by individuals. The rules and the law are clear and each speaker stressed this fact. No one person owns a brush pile placed in the lake for attracting fish. Any brush pile is considered public property as is the surface of Toledo Bend Lake. They cited people attempting to scare others away with threats, even resorting to using a handgun. Agent. Dewil and Sheriff Pattison asked that you get a name or boat registration number if you were involved in one of these incidents. They have had real experiences where the boat was identified and the person caught.
